The other day I found an article in the British magazine "Aeroplane" which gives some photos and talks of an airport in Ireland and its beginnings in the 20's, which later developed into Belfast airport. The place was called Malone Air Park (What a great title for a GW addon!!) and was the first municipal airport in the U.K. and later developed into Belfast Harbor Airport at Sydenham, still in operation today. I have not had the time to check if the present airport is included in FS9. The magazine has pictures of a DH. 16 biplane, a D.H. 50, an aerial view showing buildings and some of the layout,, a D.H.9 G, a Short S.8 Cacutta, and a Saro Cloud (both flying boats), and 4 pages of text with details. It is the Febr. 2005 issue of AEROPLANE, with a Mustang on the cover. Reading the article, I thought it would be nice to make this for GW right away, and thought of Bill Lyons and others like Tom Constantine and Leon Louis, and I think I will scan it and send it to Bill first so it can become a pending project and so that friends can help with making some of the aircraft. How does it sound? It would entail making some of the aircraft and painting them, and in the meantime I will check the web for any added information I can find. :)Anyone interested can contact me at: nicktsel@otenet.gr or send me a private message.

Hi Nick,
Just for your information, Belfast Harbour Airport at Sydenham, now known as Belfast City Airport, started as RNAS Sydenham - a Royal Naval Air Station. Malone Air Park would have been in the South of the city, Sydenham is in the east and there's about 4 or 5 miles between them. I believe that the site of the Malone Air Park is now a golf course (not sure if they built the golf course exactly on the same site - it was a bit before my time!)
I posted this in your other thread that mentioned it and then saw this one!
I just wanted to point out that Malone and Sydenham are not the same location as you seemed to suggest.
BTW, Belfast City is alive and well in FS9, although I haven't yet seen what the Golden Wings treatment has done to it!

Thanks fellows. We are slowly picking up on this project. Myles: Your post expalins why on a quick search I did I found the new airport in the maps east of the city center. Your two locations explain this, as I believe the text in the mag said it was more to the south. I also noticed today that there is a new scenery out to download, called "Belfast City Airport" for k4 at: library.avsim.net/civil_flight/msfs/fs2004/scenery/city_airport.zipbut the maker says it needs FS Enhancer by LAGO to show properly, and I do not have that tool. Some of you may, though. I plan to scan the article at home after work today, and will post it tomorrow from work, as I have a very fast connection there. Till then I will do some more research on this Malone thing. It is nice to know we have an Irish lad to help us out with 'esoteric' information we would never know otherwise. Who can we get to do the aircraft? (Psst: I have a devious but honest plan in mind: drop a hint to M. Stone who works very fast and if we get lucky, he might do a DH 50 or a Saro flying boat--hush-hush and pray). Thanks again to both. Nick
