If anybody's interested in seeing how the North Beach reconstruction turned out, there are some screenshots posted at: www.geocities.com/tradepaper/page9.htmlThis is just a page from a little site that I made to give people an idea what Golden Wings is all about. You might care to check out the other pages; there's nothing that you don't already know about but some of the pictures I thought turned out rather well. The new scenery will be available in a few weeks; I'm leaving some time for further testing and rethinking. Meanwhile this will give you some idea of what was involved. I thought it turned out rather well for a beginner's first effort.

very nice I like it and will be glad to add it to my GW. I haven't a clue on how to do any of this, and frankly to old and to impatient to want to learn it, so very happy when someone that does is willing to share it! THANKS very much.

Well done. Apart from previewing the scenery, I was having a good browse but apparently a bandwidth limit was hit. I'll be back. I did something similar to share around / inflict upon the innocent some of my FS stuff at users.chariot.net.au/~theburfs/INDEX.html - hidden a little from browsers to avoid getting bogged down in correspondence (I know, I'm a Grumpy Antisocial Old Man). And I also need to learn some more design skills (who needs social skills?). Your work on the North Beach coastlines to regress the wet bits really did impress me and the overall scenery looks fine to me.

Well, I created that site for the purpose of explaining to my friends who aren't into simming, or who aren't into FS (you have to remember my original background is in combat sims and some of the guys I know still don't understand why anyone would want to "just fly around"), what Golden Wings is all about. Don't expect to make any converts, just a means of explaining what I'm involved with lately - easier to show them some pictures than to try to describe it.
Those Geocities web pages are pretty poor stuff, but I didn't want to use up my remaining allotment at my main website (which I pay money for) and they work well enough for this sort of thing. That's not the only one I've got; I've got a couple of others which contain walkthroughs for Hidden & Dangerous and Hidden & Dangerous 2. (You want to see some 3D VR effects - and find out just how good your video and memory is - try H&D2. ) I had one for gun stuff but I finally just incorporated that one into my main website.
As for the shoreline reconstruction, the process actually isn't that difficult in terms of technique - it would be very easy, IF Coastline Maker worked properly. It doesn't. More often than not it fails to save and compile the data. It took me TWO DAYS of basically saving and resaving, compiling and recompiling, the same data before I got it to take - and even then there are a couple of spots in one area where the land polys didn't quite make it out to the "beach."
So it didn't take smarts, just persistence. And I'm sure there are other programs that would have made it much easier. I just happened to get hold of a program with more bugs than an ant farm.
I'll have the scenery available for download pretty soon. Just doing a little testing and thinking.

But I don't mean to grab undue credit. Constantine contributed a lot to this project. I regard him as a co-author.
This way I can blame him for anything that's wrong with it.

A point that should be made: this scenery is not, repeat, NOT compatible with Free Flow New England. Anybody using FFNE will have to switch it off before using North Beach, or else be prepared for some very strange looking effects.
Some custom meshes may give problems too. Look, all I can do is make this stuff so it works with the stock installation. There's nobody in the world who could make something like this that would be guaranteed to work with all the various possible tweaks.

Anyway it should be available quite soon. I've already begun the process of getting it hosted for download; with any luck maybe it will be up this weekend.
This is not a beta, but it is very much Version 1. There are several things that I would like to fix, if I could find out how; and I am hoping that someone who gets it will know the answers. I'm hoping to be able to do a V2 one of these days with at least some of the problem areas cleared up.
Be warned: it's a frame rate muncher. People with marginal hardware may find it a little overwhelming. (Turning down the traffic helps; the traffic is unrealistically heavy anyway, since FS9 still believes that's present-day La Guardia there.)
It's been interesting. I don't think I'll be doing anything quite this ambitious again for a good long while. We shall see.

I should say here that I couldn't have done it without the freeware macros created and generously made available by others. Frank Betts, Leon Louis, Jimmy Martin, Ralf Triebel - I can't name them all from memory, but they're in the Readme. Or if there's anybody I missed I hope somebody will call it to my attention so I can correct the oversight.
And of course there's Bill Lyons with the original GW macros, and Gerrish Gray with his magnificent trees. Well, there's just not room enough in a forum post to name everybody.
These people are the ones who do the real work in scenery design. Anybody can learn to use AFCAD and stick in a bunch of objects. Creating a 3D object is an authentic art form - and, I freely admit, one that remains a deep dark mystery to me. That there are people who do it, and make their work freely available to the rest of us, is what makes it possible for amateurs like me to assemble our little efforts.
We all - designers and users alike - owe them a round of applause; and let us hope they don't stop.

Paul...can't find it at your site yet.... Dale Go to News and Updates or Scenery section - it should be there. Sometime refreshing your page a few times helps - if the computer 'caches it.
