Re our discussion on signal squares. I can find no reference to them so far for the US. However if you look at the picture of Sunny South Airport taken in 1951 (middle of this pageish) there is a circle with markers and what looks like a 'T' in it. I wonder is this is the US equivalent?? airfields-freeman.com/FL/Airfields_FL_Miami_N.htm

As I said earlier I have not heard of a 'Signal square' before. But looking at a picture of that I would say it is the same idea in the fact that the "wind tee" points like a planes wings into the wind. The segmented parts show the base leg direction. Same for the "tetrahedron. The arrow shape points to the direction of landing. I have landed at a few strips that have had the 'wind tee' but right along side that was a wind sock also. Hope this helps a bit Scruffyduck.

Thanks Frank - I am sure you are right about this. I will try and comeup with something to use in some of my airfields which uses this method

Thinking about it. Maybe the base circle as a textured polygon and then a wind tee object made to turn withthe wind. Not sure if I could make the circuit markers moveable - way beyond my limited skills at the moment - can just about make a box This hobby gets worse and worse. I have finally decided to learn Gmax!!
