I believe my initial installation of the FSX Demo was flawed. From the first time I tried to fly in FSX until last night I found the sim unstable. I experienced terrible frame rates, blurred scenery, strange coloring, lock ups, etc. in other word FSX looked and performed badly. Last night I decided to play around with it again but when I started FSX it just set there at the opening screen and would not open. I finally got the message that FSX has experienced errors and has to close. I could never get it to execute so I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. After the new installation I ran FSX and it was totally different. The scenery looked good, the sim seemed was very stable, my frame rates were not as bad and over all everything looked good. After adjusting the scenery settings I can now fly in the FSX demo at around 20 fps(still not as good as FS9). The following are my settings: P4 2.5ghz 128m Radeon 9700 (9500 pro) 1g RAM
Level of Detail Medium Mesh Complexity 65 Mesh resolution 76 Texture 1m Water Effects 1.x Land Detail Textures checked Scenery Complexity Dense Autogen Normal Special Effects Detail Medium
I found that any increase in LOD, Mesh Resolution and Autogen higher the settings shown above have an adverse effect on my frame rates and the fluidity of the sim.
