The NDA was lifted today so I can reveal that my lack of attention to the forum these past several months was due to my participation in the beta program.
I will have some comments (good and bad) on FSX as time goes on. For now, I will just say it has good points, and it is graphically impressive, but represents a major change under the hood so we will be learning a whole new way of doing things.
Be aware that many FS9 aircraft and sceneries will NOT easily make the move to FSX without updates (some major) or re-writes by the authors. Golden Wings is not compatable with FSX.
FSX will require good equipment to be fun to use, so start saving your pennies. The Old Hangar will continue to support FS9/GW3 because we know that many of our members will not rush to FSX.
We hope to be a refuge for FS9/GW users and a place where FSX General Aviation pilots will feel at home.

This isn't a refuge for FS9/GW users, Tom, it's a paradise!

So the facts can finally start rolling out now! There are still many questions to be filled. I would like to know what my hometown area looks like (Especially the little rubidoux in front of 24) and if they solved the odd glitches with the aircraft. Now I must count from August to October.... auugguustt...nooveemmbberr....October!!

Tom- >> Golden Wings is not compatable with FSX. <<
For me the story begins and end there....
I may get FSX out of curiosity, but it will never be anything primary unless GW would be able to be used, or someone make GW for FSX

That adds up to 5 flightsims. All different. What could be better? Oh yeah, 6 flightsims LOL. And remember, GW3 will look like GW3 even when FS11 is out in 2-3 years.

Tom, I am assuming the gauges don't work in the 206 in FS-X. I have been disappointed to see that my high quality payware won't work in FS-X. Some of them will cause the screen to flash black, and even stay there. And then there's the gauges, which none are supported I suppose. And if work-load is permitting, could you snap a quick shot of KRIR facing north for me? I would appreciate it!
Thanks Tom, Kobbe

Hi, Tom, I had wondered why we haven't seen much of you on the forum lately.
I myself plan on getting FSX for something new to play with, but it will probably be some time yet before it becomes my main simulator. (Though hopefully not just before FSXI pops out ;D )
I know I can run it okay on my system, thanks to the demo, but there are just too many addons that I am using right now that I think may slow FSX down to much on my current system. (Misty Fjords, UT, Cargo Pilot just to name a few.) After Christmas I am planning on getting a new Graphic Card and replacing my 1meg of ram with 2megs of dual channel DDR. Perhaps this will give me the edge I need, but if not, I'm still pretty happy with FS9.
I installed Carenado's Cessna 182Q in the demo with no problem, but I haven't tried the 206. Of coarse the 182Q is their latest plane and was probably designed to be FSX compatible right off.
The real problem I noticed is with FS98 style gauges in other planes. There is always the hope that someone 'with the know how' out there will make a module that will run these gauges once FSX is out a while.

Just a side note, ALL Carenado aircraft that I have tried so far (206, 210, 182RG, 182Q) work fine in FSX and all gauges and effects seem to be compatable. Some other payware does not but they shall remain nameless while awaiting updates. But, be aware that some planes will NOT make the move to FSX at all. Kobbe, I'll try to get that pic posted sometime today. But remember, it's still a beta. RE: FS98 gauges, don't look for a patch. You will need to rewrite the panel.cfg to call new gauges. That is one of the reasons I am keeping FS9/GW3. I am not going to try many more FS9 addons in FSX since they work fine where they are. I'll get some new addons for FSX as they are released.

Tom meant to ask in the above post and forgot. How is the Goose in FSX, the only reason I'm buying the deluxe version is to get it.

Kobbe, I'll try to get that pic posted sometime today. But remember, it's still a beta. Thanks, I know it's in beta still, but I could just about bet that they aren't going to change anything drastically enough to make a difference at that one airport. Mainly, I am expecting to see goofed taxi-ways and a little dirt pile for Mt. Rubidoux. I wonder if they changed AFCAD's at all, if not, then the taxi-way part is sure to be the same.
