I want a good plane to use as a sort-of personal transport. I want something like a mooney-good speed, retractable gear, one engine. Any suggestions?

Free or payware - modern or golden age

Free, and age is either, but more prefferably modern, but golden would be okay

Jakemaster, you may want to try the Executive version of the excellent AFG Pilatus PC-12 Turboprop for FS2004 by Jacob de Churruca. It is a great General Aviation plane - turboprop - and fairly fast - about 270 Knots (vs 220 for the Mooney Bravo) and has excellent flying characteristics - center line landings everytime!
I just re-installed the one I've had for a year or so and got the panel and VC to finally work correctly. There is a sophiscated panel that comes with it - by David Durst. The panels are fairly good for freeware. There are a couple of payware versions of the PC-12 out there - but they cost money!
The frame rates are good and there are many repaints for it. It is at Avsim - afg_pc12_basepack.zip.

Heres my few comments: The afg pc-12 is nice, but the vc isnt that great. Brian gladdens is nice too, but I dont really like the PC-12
As far as the Taufin goes, the vc view is awkwardly angled.
For now Im using the Default (gasp) grand caravan. Its real nice, and I admire the real one for its insane versatility.

Have you tried Bill's Globe Swift at flightsim.com? For some odd reason it is not at Avsim.
Filename: ccswift4.zip

The Me108 viewpoint is angled wierd. Im trying out Shakey Jake later, but still searching. This is one of those neverending things What I really want is a Skymaster with VC, but right now the only one with VC is payware
