Hi
Just a quick question about FS9's autogen. I would like to increase the amount of trees in FS9. Can this be done by editing the audtogen. Is this possible and if so how?
Thanks.

Hi Jon Yeah I did, I've asked over here because Tom and Bill Lyons put FSGW together and FSGW has a lot more trees then def. FS9 does. So I guess my question would be to Tom or Bill, on how they where able to increase the amont of trees, but my main question is can this be done through the main autogin xml. in Flight Sim.

Ken, The little I know about it (from the autogen.sdk), and looking at the files installed by GW3: Looking at the \Autogen\default.xml, I don't see any definitions to do with vegetation. Autogen is/can be controlled by an *.agn file associated with the terrain texture set .bmps in the \Scenery\World\texture\ folder. There are some sets that have no .agn file. These are sets, general forest, swamp, etc., without any geographic features, like streets, fields, etc. These use a 'default vegetation' definition. I have no idea where that definition is, but I don't see any file in the GW3 install that could contain that def..(unless the fsglc_us.bgl does??). The GW3 install does contain 300+ modified .agn files. Looking at a few of these files (1), it looks like Bill increased the (appearance of) trees in these file in 2 ways. 1)Vegetation comes in various forms of trees and shrubs. There is apparently a max. combined total. He increased trees' share of the combined total to %100 of the max. 2) He increased the height/size of the trees. (1)You can view/edit/create the .agn files using the FS2004 Autogen SDK-(link courtesy of the Scenery Hall of Fame) Dave

The place to start is with the Autogen SDK. I can't give you the details because I was not involved with the autogen part but I believe Bill used the autogen annotator that is included in the FS2004 Autogen SDK to work his magic. I recommend you obtain the Autogen SDK from Microsoft and study that. It allows you to place trees where they belong among other tricks. My understanding is that you would be customizing agn files that are associated with certain ground textures
