Greetings,
One of three major FSX projects I am working on this summer while on furlough from law school (Golden Hawaii and a Globe Swift being the other two)...is Maine regressed to the year 1935. The year isn't so important, it's just that the oldbeacon.com has the entire airfield directory from January 1, 1936 scanned and uploaded. i.e. a ready source of information.
oldbeacon.com/beacon/airfield_directories_federal.htm
Progress so far:
All 152 (yes, I counted) airports/fields in Maine have been wiped off the map, not a trace to be found! Until you uncheck the scenery folder that is That was a chore unto itself.
Portland City Airport (now Portland International Jetport KPWM) is complete, and Portland Airport in Scarborough is in the works.
There are 26 airfields total to be built, 4 of those are seaports.
I plan on building some custom hangars as a lot of the airfields had the name of the field on hangar roofs for pilots to identify.
I'm also thinking about custom landclass and ai traffic too.
Really what started this all (besides nostalgia, Maine has been one of my many homes, and is the location of my alma mater), was an article on "flying Santa"
www.flyingsanta.com/HistoryOrigins.html
So of course all the lighthouses will be built as well! There is such a lack of snow here in Hawaii, I'll never be able to take up my GeeBee Model A on skis. As the weather heats up here my thoughts turn to colder environments
It is of course a long term project, with a little to be added here, a little to be added there. All the airfields are going to be built basic, and as time and motivation allows more attention will be given.
If you have already built some "Golden" Maine airports, or are ever inspired to do so, drop me a line into my TOH inbox and let's collaborate.
