I vaguely heard of this train.Last night,on a program called Hitlers Body guard, they had extensive pictures and configurations of it.Impressive ,a rolling nerve center.with all the amenities of a great train.
Heavily armored, with anti aircraft guns on it,army units following it,false routs,it was an effect to protect him from assassination.Which was a big problem in Germany,by Germans against him...Unfortunitly they were not successful.
But as far as trains go,this was unique.I wonder if models or pictures are out there of this train? Any one have more info on this?
Its ironic he called it code word "Amerika!!"....Thanx...Vin
The Fuhrerhauptquartier, code named "Amerika" was put into service in August 1939. It consisted of a locomotive(later two), armored antiaircraft car with 2-cm guns and a 26 man crew, baggage and power-engine car, Fuhrer's Pullman (No. 10206 in which his Chief Wehrmacht Adjutant, his chief Personal Adjutant and a valet were also quartered), conference car with communications center including several teletype machines, escort car for 22 SS-Begliet-Kommando and RSD men, dining car, two sleeping cars for entourage and guests, bath car, dining car, two cars for personnel(secretaries, cooks etc), Press chiefs car with communications center including a 700 watt short wave transmitter, baggage and power-engine car, anti-aircraft car.
This train was composed of 13 cars of Deutsche Reichsbahn: - 105 060 Bln - SalMaschPw4ük-37 - Luggage and electric generator. - 105 062 Bln - SalMaschPw4ük-37 - Luggage and electric generator. - 10 206 Bln - Sal4ü-37 - personal Show of A.Hitler. - 10 252 Bln - SalBer4ü-3å - Room of conference. - 10 242 Bln - SalR4ü-37 - Restaurant. - 10 244 Bln - SalR4ü-37 - Restaurant. - 10 221 Bln - SalBegl4ü-37 - Berths for the personnel. - 10 222 Bln - SalBegl4ü-37 - Berths for the personnel. - 10 223 Bln - SalBegl4ü-37 - Berths for the personnel. - 10 231 Bln - SalL4ü-37 - Beds for guests. - 10 232 Bln - SalL4ü-37 - Beds for guests. - 10 281 Bln - SalBad6ü-39 - Bathroom. - 10 251 Bln - SalPresse4ü-37 - Room of press.
Thanx Bruce, thats about what was shown on the History channel.I did see actual footage of that Monster locomotive.,and yes two, all hooked up together.Heavy armor encased these steam engines. One just looking at the whole picture comes away with the impression this guy was always running scared.Extra, extra extraordinary security That rendition of that model seems correct........ All Aboard,in German is. like in English,..All Aboard Amerika!!..twlight zone stuff......Vin
I would have liked to watch that - thanks for pointing me in that direction, but there seem to be no pictures on the web about that train. The Kriegslokomotive is a monster, a "simplified", "leightweight" All-Purpose-Long-Distance-Machine. Krupp and Borsig companies were able to build 6000 of them within 2 years. That is a lot of metal!
Hi slide,I looked also.Bruce come up with good info.the history channel, featured the program called "Hitlers Body Guard"...They have access to film which I think is great.Anything from WW2.their German planes feature is fantastic...hope you can get/find this historical stuff.I believe some of these are available on the History channel,on the net...CIAO!...Vin
Hi Friends, The locomotives used in Hitler's personal train pulling weren't armored, but simply streamlined. They were two Einheits Br.01.10 (the three cylinder streamlined version of Br.01) You can see them here: www.dbtrains.com/en/locomotives/epochII/BR01.10 Many times to the train were added two A/A wagons (Flak, based on the salonwagen's frame), the first after the tender and the second at the trains end.
Hi Friends, I forgot to say that Liliput has in his catalogue (1/87 - Ho Scale) the Br.01.10 and almost ALL the wagons (the Flakwagon too)used in Hitler's train. Unfortunately the models dimensions and accuracy aren't so good in according with the actual factory's standards (they are based on the older Liliput's streamlined wagon; do you remember the old camo version?), but the 01.10 is really FANTASTIC (black or dark grey livery).
