I've always been a pretty solid nVidia fan over the years but when they had their driver problems when the 8800 series first came out I thought I'd give ATI a try. So I switched from an 8600GT to an ATI 3870. I was quite happy with the performance increase but I found the ATI image overall a bit 'harsher' although still of high quality. But just lately I've been getting one or two issues affecting sound stutter which I've put down to the HQ sound that comes on the ATI card and which I have no use for. Anyway, earlier today after running the 3870 for a year or so (maybe a bit more - you know how time flies... ) I ditched it for an 8800GTX. The 3870 I got new off Ebay but the 8800GTX is a used card about a year old. You've never tell by looking at it though and it came with all the kit (cables etc). Well folks, I have to say that IMO nVidia are still unbeatable. I think that the colours are warmer and softer than with the ATI card, which is what I thought when I first changed over. And I've got an immediate increase in frame rate - I set my target only to 22 in FSX which I find quite acceptable and so far I've been getting that figure with some very high settings in most areas (still down to 10 or so when I look at my very large amount of AI at KSFO though when taking off in the Baron ) And that's all without loads of fiddling and tweaking - I've got that in minutes after the install. I'm just glad to be back with nVidia and I can't see myself changing again.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and ATI certainly appeal to a lot of users. I haven't used one in years though. Like you, I adopted nVidia and have never looked back. I am currently looking for a new card and I'll be choosing between nVidia cards.

Hi Vin - yep, I saw that interview but when I saw it's 38 minutes long I decided to give it a miss. Just don't have the time to spare It's funny isn't it Tom how we develop our 'brand loyalties'. Do you think it's what we do naturally based on our experiences or because of how they promote their products? Never could decide really, but as you come across a lot of people who stick with the same old thing all the time without ever trying anything new just because they've never had a 'bad' experience, I think it's probably the former. Marketing may not be as powerful as everyone would try to have us believe. But anyway, this morning I'm paying the price for my initial euphoria. After having a great time yesterday in both FSX and FS9, when I switched on today neither would run! I changed a few settings and did a few flights but can't get it what I call stable and I'm wondering if it's because I used the latest beta drivers. I'm just downloading the latest official version and then I'll have to see what I can do with it. You know what I'm thinking - as it's off Ebay, I just hope there's not a small card fault that caused the previous owner to get rid of it.

I've never owned an Nvidia card since the day I started building my own systems. I think the first ATI I used was a Radeon 9800 Pro. I'm currently on a R1900XTX which is now dated but has served me very well. Well, I finally broke down last night and purchased an Nvidia card. Having done some research on Toms and wanting to stay within a certain budget, I have a GeForce 9800 GTX+ inbound. Not expecting miracles but I should see some improvement over the 2 year old 1900 It actually rates high for FSX on Toms. I guess we'll see. Anyway, it should help bring a little more out of my 6000+ Dave

Great card. Now it all depends on your processor and memory

I just bought a new nVidia 9500GT. I perhaps could have budgeted more but then I would have needed a new power supply as well. This card along with 2 more Gigabytes of RAM should keep me simming for a while.

The only thing now is to learn all the tweaks for the new card. Having been an ATI guy for such along time I've become quite knowledgable with the tools and tweaks to get the best of the ATI cards. Gotta learn the Nvidia side now Dave

Well now I'm the very happy owener of a 9800 GTX+ 1GB. Very good value. Liking the Nvidia product. This from a lifetime ATI user FSX runs quite nicely and of course FS9 is just screaming now.

I'm not surprised. The word is that ATI have no answer to nVidia just now. Even their best card can be beaten by a slightly clocked 8800GTX (I'm told) so your card should be the bees knees in comparison (as apparently it is ) Good job

Kofi pointed out on another forum these ATI Omega drivers: www.omegadrivers.net/I installed them last night, and used the ATI Tray Tools that are an optional part of the install to tweak things further; and found all my textures looked sharper, and my framerates went up as well. Thanks, Kofi! -James EDIT: He has nvidia Geforce drivers as well.
