Hi folks...It's been awhile since I've been around here but I'm in the process of re-installing Golden Wings and have a couple of questions. 1. Is Holger Sandmann's Glacier Bay add-on for FS9 compatible with GW?
Darn it...I forgot the other question,LOL......anyway, I'm glad the site is still here...thanks, middle

I just remembered what the other question was.... Can I use the great mesh by Holger Sandmann for areas like the Cascade Mt.s and the Canadian Rockies, Mt. Rainier, Columbia Gorge, Vancouver ,etc, etc, without having any of the files conflict with pre-existing mesh in GW?
Also, I'd like to install my complete set of FS Genesis mesh across the USA.
What I've done is un-install my FS9 install as it got rather unwieldly...it was up to 60 Gigs or so and was taking forever to load...plus I really like flying low and slow and always liked the challenge of navigating w/o all the late 20th century aids. I guess I'm gettin' old and ain't in much of a hurry to get anywhere, albeit virtually, lol. Plus, once I'm done with the installation process, then I believe I can do away with the stock FS9 to save a little room on the harddrive. Anyway, any small tidbits of advice will be greatly appreciated.....middle

Hi middle
Can't give a definitive answer but while you're waiting for someone to come aloing who does know for sure, can't do any harm by trying it all. There's no 'installation' involved - all you're doing is activating stuff. If it doesn't work or if you don't like it, just deactivate it and delete the corresponding folder.
Good luck! If you do, let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome to the Old Hangar middlejohn.
Adding mesh should create no issues in GW3 and individual airports with excludes will probably work. I'm not sure about glacier bay but as Rollerball said, no harm in trying it.
Roger.

GW3 was built on default mesh. The Continental US was on 76m mesh from FS Genesis so addon mesh will cause no problems. The only built in scenery in GW3 is inside the airport flattens so mesh will not have any effect anyway in that. Addon scenery is a try it and see proposition. Some works some doesn't. If you want to use Cal Classics scenery (and other 50s-60s scenery), Bill & I have recommended a Silver Wings setup instead of Golden Wings because Cal Classics uses airports from after WWII which Bill buried under terrain in GW3. Examples of that are KLAX, KJFK (or Idlewild) and many big city airports that didn't exist during the 30's.

OK, understood....Thanks for the info......It's a shame about the cal classic scenery....altho it's a little later then the GW era, a lot of it might just look appropriate. But, I guess I could use it outside of the USA. Thanks, Gents, I'll let ya know how this works out......middle

Hmmm...I keep coming up with new thoughts on this....would it be better to install Glacier Bay into my vanilla FS9 install, then port it over when I install GW or should I install Glacier Bay into Golden Wings? I could try both, I reckon if the one doesn't work.....

I always recommend a normal install when possible. That way files tucked into odd places don't get missed. However, if you install Glacier bay into FS9 and it is all contained in one folder, you can simply point GW3's scenery library to the same folder and only install it once. I installed all my FS Genesis mesh into it's own set of folders and then activated those folders in all 3 FS9/GW/SW installs. Saves a lot of space.

I hear ya, Tom...actually I'm having second thoughts about the Glacier Bay stuff with the exception of the mesh and terrain in that part of the world which in my opinion is really nice. Anyhow, I just got up and running with GW3 and the updates, smooth as silk......but.....I discovered that for some reason my Track IR doesn't work and it works on everything else so I'm wondering if I'm going to have to trick it somehow with a fake fs9 exe textfile or somethng....has anyone else encountered this? I have really grown accudtomed to the sight advantages with the track IR........
