Recently I have seen weeping and moaning (perhaps even whining) on various forums (Never here though LOL) about 3rd party stuff not working right in FSX. In response I offer this brief comment:
If you do not have FSX AND ACCELERATION installed properly, you have a crippled sim.
That's it. Thank you and goodnight.

Thanx Tom so true,..gotta connect those dots.....with my very limited experience with FSX, and I found, and this may be for me only ,the mating of the compatible nvida driver helps...Here I went from an appalling low FR,to a very respectable one now!..That simple FREE move, saved FSX for me to enjoy.FSX??Certainly the best game card AVAILABLE will have enormous impact!... that my next planned addition.....Disclaimer!!...ONLY MY EXPERIENCE!!.again thanx for your wisdom.....CHEERS..Vin!!

Maybe you can answer this for me, Tom. If one has FSX and Acceleration, that cover ALL the other versions, correct? I think some are not looking at what version of FSX is needed for a product, but in their defence, some designers/sites are not saying anymore than just FSX; no SP2 or Accel. etc. I don't see why the purchasers don't investigate it more, rather than sending out their money only to be surprised when it won't work because they do not have Accel.

I don't understand why anyone thinks NOT having Acceleration is a good idea. It is the only way to have everything FSX offers.
It includes 3 planes I don't use, 10 missions I'll never fly BUT it also includes all the content including a change of key presses that support the new content.
People without Acceleration should NOT buy addons. Or make Acceleration the next addon they buy and give up those old FS9 aircraft

I agree 100%, Tom. I have always bought the top version of MSFS. It always came with extra planes, gauges, etc. that developers WILL use. I bought the Gold like Tim suggested and love it.

I fully agree Tom....Fsx Gold Edition is what I waited to buy... after all this time without FSX at all. I purchase many many aircraft and addons from my fellow modelers and have had no trouble with anything at all! I am now using a very inexpensive laptop for sim flying and my work with G.A.S. and very happy with my FR and sim experience!...Best Gil

I gather from these comments, that "GOLD FSX" and Toms recommendations, are the way to go....and so will I. Been holding off,but I read here, it seems the FSX has gone thru a change of sorts, reminiscent of the FS9 development ...Yet it still begs the question??? What is a recommended system needed to fully realize FSX....?? Thanx..Vin!!

I held out until around February and picked it up. I have both FS9 and 10 in the computer, but as a bush flyer, FSX IS the way to go. I have a 2.8 quad core with 8 gigs of memory and a gig of video. I can't run everything maxed, but pretty close. It also depends WHERE I fly. In the bush it is fine. When I go into a BIG airport like PANC or KSEA, I can go to a crawl.

My equipment, while good during FSX beta testing is junk nowadays but I am able to enjoy FSX/Acceleration just fine. There are trade-offs of course as my system is 3+ years old. There is an i7 in my future though What I have now: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600/4gb DDR2/nVidia 9500GT/1024 Windows 7 Home Premium CH Yoke/Pedals/Throttle Quad. Lots of big hard drives. Yes I recommend FSX Gold

Agree completely. If you have a good, well modified FS9, there is little to gain going to a basic FSX. Acceleration offers the next level in flight simming. Much more realistic scenery and aircraft are possible. My new system runs FSX very well. With display setting maxed out, I only notice a slow down in certain areas with very detailed scenery. Core I7 960 6gb RAM Nvidia GTX 470 Win 7/64

1 thing I found that helps for Dual simmers is keeping your Fs9 install and FSX install on there own dedicated HD separate from the OS on its own. Windows 7 really seems to like FSX and Fs9.
