Nah, that's new technology Vin. I bet that's a nice composite/carbon fibre body. Much stronger, lighter and more efficient than your old Cessna or Piper. Probably at least the same cruising speed and more range on an engine with half the power that the owner can maintain himself at a fraction of the cost of running an old aircraft. The world changes and moves on Vin. Mustn't be left behind. Mind you, I still prefer analogue instruments to glass panels Roger

Roger!,Roger,of course your correct, modern, intelligent, appreciative of the new technology, reasonable, flexible, the open mind...However I'm not today!!....Some times and only after experiencing all in our fast moving world, one yearns for the old standered basics, ironicaly which were the cutting edge then....In a second ,If I WON that beautiful, state of the art plane , I would trade it in for a Used Cessna "LAND-O-MATIC" Cessna 150!.1969 would do nicely!!..at less then $20,grand todays prices,It would give me considerable extra Quid in my jeans!!. I bet your Tri-Pacer,That Old Milking Stool ,in time will be a a longing memory filled with joy, real or imaginary! !!.In the Sept.AOPA mag. Ron Machado alludes to this..Wish I knew how to share that article with you...he,a 210 owner, thousands of hrs, instructing, now settles on a C-150.he goes on to list the joys of flying the Little thing!...to numerous to mention here.....Of course I agreed...A One Knob Job plane. The Fly,no fly lever..the throtte!!Sparten cockpit,.....Slow,low,no place to go....what can be better?...I had the use of one years ago,and in the normal rush to upgrade, did not buy it.What a mistake !...Had it made and did not know it.You and your joy with your magic carpet is a continuing story I hang on too....so reminiscent of many hours ,alone in the unassuming,C-150,which never got much respect then, and only now because its a memory.......CHEERS my friend...Vin In 1974,a friend of mine became very ill.Asked me to look after his plane ,of which I did..as shown here....he recovered after a few years......Loved this plane with that paint then..could have bought it BUT!!!

I know where you're coming from Vin, I cut my flying teeth on the good ole 150 like thousands before and probably thousands more who will do the same in the future. But what I like about what's happening now is this 'owner maintenance' thing which cuts the cost of owning and operating a fairly high performance 2 seater light aircraft by a huge amount. I don't know much about the Remos because over here in Europe we're tied up in red tape while EASA, the European authority, still agonises over how LSAs should be defined and classified. They threaten anyone who buys a 'LSA' now could find that in a few months time their new purchase could go from being classed as a LSA to not being - how ridiculous is that - if you and I sat down together we could draft the spec in a couple of hours, not years. But in the next scale down ie microlights - you can buy CTSW that cruises faster than a 150, uses less fuel, has a Rotax 912S engine that you can maintain yourself, operates on an inexpensive annual Permit to Fly and not an expensive Certificate of Airworthiness and so on. Only thing is I can't afford one Roger

Yep, it seems that once they "regulate" to the max (for now) then they go for the throat and make it to expensive. They got you coming and going huh? Glad I have a friend that co-owns a flight school. I am fortunate to enjoy flying at virtually no cost to me except for trading my time for flight time... I make a few flights for the company (customer transports, etc.) and I get to fly equal hours for me personally. Not a bad trade since it gives me double the flight hours for my log. I normally fly nothing smaller than the B200 or sometimes a TBM850 these days. I can't stand taking a long flight in something small like a C182 or the likes. I guess I got used to pressurized cabins and plush interiors. I do like taking a short flight every now and then though in a small aircraft just to remember the basics though.

Funny thing isn't it. They talk 'de-regulation' saying, 'we need to free things up a bit, get things moving again'. But when you turn round you see that what you actually get is more 'regulation'. I agree with you Vin. My son and his friends all have their 'hot hatch' cars and they smile in a sympathetic kind of way at my old Honda that gets me from A to B. I say, 'kids, I had MG Bs, a Triumph TR6, a Mini Cooper S and stuff like that when there was no speed limit in this country, no speed cameras, cops who would give you a dressing down and kick your backside if they stopped you and not that much traffic on the road anyway. Then driving really was fun, but not now. Same goes with flying. I can't believe how much more controlled airspace there is in the UK now compared to when I had my old Milking Stool. Used to be able to hop in and just fly across the country - now you have to scan the charts with a fine tooth comb to make sure you don't 'infringe'. That's the buzz word right now. 'They' keep going on about 'infringing' and 'safety' and all of the time using it as an excuse to introduce more controlled airspace, transponder mandatory zones, stuff like that. Pretty soon we'll be like The Netherlands where every aircraft has to have a transponder - even gliders with no power supply!. And what happens after they introduce the regulations? The ATC people say it's hopeless because there are so many returns in such a small area that their screens are full of clutter! The answer is to get rid of the bureaucrats and regulators - somehow I don't think life would stop if we did. But it'll never happen because they'd regulate to stop it Keith, what a great friend to have. I'd like one like that. And how good is it to be able to get your hands on aircraft like that too. Wish I could do the same Roger

Roger, sounds like you want to live somewhere like the US in the early 1800s? Land of the "live and let live." I think those days are long gone. The "takeover" started 100 years ago here and they have been striping us all down since then. Just like the latest "buzz word"... bullying!!! Bullying has been around since the dawn of time and it never caused anyone to kill themselves until now??? COME ON!!! Just another way for the media to play spin doctor and the powers that be to regulate something else. They (whoever) want all of humanity to be wimps. Bullying is just something people have always gone through... it makes one stronger... HELL... it's what government is doing to ALL of us right now!!! EDIT: I think the aliens have landed and taken over with their "mind control" called free press. ;D
