I have found in the last few days my compass headings in a few spots, Like Galveston Tx is a full 180 off in Golden Wings, started looking and found the same thing in a few spots of Florida. I have been using FS since 98, am also a pilot, has anyone seen this before? I did look in several forums, and do want to thank all who have added so much to this hobby!

Welcome to TOH,
Can't say I've ever noticed that before. Here's a few questions that might help to identify the problem.
Is this the first time you've noticed this or is it a change from past behavior?
What are you comparing to as a reference for real north? The sim map, shift+z info, an airport (runway), GPS, or other?
Does it happen in a general area or specific location? If you fly away from the area does the compass eventually 'flip'?
Does it happen with all aircaft or a specific aircraft?
Could you give a couple of example locations, an airport or coordinates.
Dave

Dave I did try different aircraft, starting with the default flight and moving to Galveston Schoels Field, KHOU, and flying around the area. aligned on 17 at Hobby the compass was showing around 275, at Shoels on 17 it is showing around 350. I also used a sectional to check headings. I also noticed to go to Tampa from Key west I have to fly a heading of about 160 instead of the actual of close to 350. Side note, Google WB-57F, that is my real job, we fly two now and are rebuilding a third. This is most likely something I did, just cant figure it out. David

Well, I remember having compass/heading problems while slewing in both FS9 and GW3. None that I remember flying your route in FS9 or GW3.
I just flew a Piper Cub Classic (the blue one) out of Key West heading (using Plan G) 352 degrees M. I got 352 and stayed on that heading to the mainland and back to Key West on 172 M. All was well.
I took off from Tampa in a Cessna 140 Tundra heading 172 M to Key West. All was well. I went as far as across the bay, then hit the slew (Y) button, and did some spinning around a few times and pointed my nose at St Pete/Clearwater. The compass needle and GPS heading indicator didn't move in slew, but righted itself and remained reliable all the way into St Pete/Clearwater.
If you'd give me the heading you're using (160/340?), the type of plane, the time of day, etc, I'll try to duplicate your flights. (Now that I'm in "Post Reply," I have forgotten how much of this info is in your posting, so excuse me if I post this and then find the info I requested in your message).

I have noticed this, too, on several occasions and with different planes and airships when on longer trips across the globe. I thought that crossing the equator and/or saving the same flight too often may have been the reason.

David, I also checked out the locations you gave. I used the default C-172 to eliminate the possibility of an errant custom gauge. I also experimented with the 'hemisphere' selection in International settings and disabling the magdec.bgl. Neither had any effect on correct compass readings. Runway headings and compass agreed at Schoels and Hobby, while sitting and flying. During flights from Key West to Tampa and back the compass was correct. I still don't have a clue as to what might be causing the problem. I don't see any files in the GW3 intall, including the updates, that should cause this problem. Do you still have a 'modern' FS2004 install. If you used method A to install GW3 (copying existing FS9), have you checked to see if the same problem exists in the 'modern' install? Have you installed any add-ons to GW3? If so, have you tried disabling or uninstalling them? Do the compass heading and the Shift+Z heading info agree? Still scratchin' my head... Dave I see you're listed as a Project Manager. Do you also fly?.......Cool job in any case!!

Good Morning and thanks for the replies, I think my issue was connected to the Radio Range installation I had, I removed it and the problem went with it! I will keep the Radio Range program off when I am not flying using it, but is is fun to use also. I will fly a little more tonight with RR of and on to make sure this was the only issue. As for the WB-57, I am a project manager and the project manager for bringing the third one up, we pulled one from the bone yard to rebuild this spring, should be flying September 2012. We also have the last flying Guppy, It is a good place to work for an airplane nut.

I am just coming back from a sim crash in my "modern" FS9 when enroute from Nepal to Indonesia and all my headings were 180° wrong after restarting from the last saved position , Shift-Z-info as well as GPS and dashboard stuff. Best of all: I left the thing alone for a while and when I came back, sim had found back to its right numbers alone! ;D
