I'm old enough to have listened to a lot of Glen Miller music - even though I was born a few years after his disappearance. He was a bit of a hero to my Dad (an AAF then USAF Pilot) and my Mom (a War Bride from Malta)
I hope this Segway from the great man to the aircraft was sufficiently smooth.
Dad was the commander of the 861st AC&W Squadron (Air Control & Warning - a radar site) on the north end of the Aiken, SC, airport adjacent to US Route 1. They had a small ramp connected to the airport runways. Though the periodic C-47 could be seen on that ramp, it was really for their "little L-20" as my Dad described it. It was assigned so the pilots could keep current with magrinally inexpensive flying hours.
I fly the DHC Beaver and the Noorduyn Norseman a lot for a bunch of reasons. One is that I find both aircraft described as "L-20s" in a bunch of different aircraft books (most usually reliable).
Can anyone tell me (without guessing) which was the "REAL" L-20. Could you let me know what your source is?
Many thanx!!!

She was!!! She was a great cook! She passed about two years ago after a long and full life.
My wife learned how to make Mom's version of CAPPUNATA. That's how I know she loves me.
OK, ok!! I told my dear Wife I liked her turkey stuffing after she prepared our first Thanksgiving meal; however, I did ask if she wouldn't get my Mother's recipe for stuffing - I explained it was special in that a "foreigner" who had never eaten a turkey until she came to the States developed a recipe for the most tasty stuffing I'd ever had. Next time we were home (my home) she asked my Mom for her stuffing recipe. My Mom confided in her that she had asked her Mother-in-Law (my Grandma Stewart, of course) for her recipe because my Dad raved about his Mom's stuffing just like I raved about my Mom's stuffing. Marge (my Wife) told me years later that my Mother had told her the same thing my Grandmother had told my Mom: the recipe is on the back of the Pepperidge Farms Bread Crumb package....
But all three are/were really great cooks!
Speaking of great cooks, my Mom's Mother......

Stew, A couple of links: For the Nortseman: www.noorduynnorseman.com/And the L-20: www.dhc-2.com/current_cover_page.htmGlenn Miller has special significance for us, for he grew up in Denver, CO and attended CU Boulder. The Glenn Miller Ballroom on the Boulder Campus is named in his honor. Have you guys seen the Norseman repaint of Jimmy Cagney's Mk. V in "Captains of the Clouds"? I think it's on FlightSim; it's pretty cool! Cheers! Alan

Alan!
It went right by me that you're in Denver.
Visited for the first time (excepting layovers at Stapleton while traveling in the Military)(yes, yes, I've already admitted to being over 60) for 10 days end Oct/beginning Nov. Daughter and Hubby moved there last summer, just bought a house in Parker --- Netherland, casinos, Boulder, Golden, Colorado Springs, and much more.
I'm in the house I'll die in in a Syracuse Suburb and would never leave now that we've finally settled near the two older "Kids" and all of the current Grand Kids, but I see lots of trips to Denver and the area in my future - and the Daughter just announced she's pregnant (for the first time), so I'm sure my Wife will insist I accompany her on more than one trip the "help" her baby (the Daughter "baby" and the Daughter's baby!).
Oh, and let me thank you and Beany for trying to keep me on the Noorduyn track....! The pix and the info are GREAT!!!
