I was disappointed but not really surprised by the news that Microsoft was canceling further development of Flight. Joshua Howard, the inept and possibly incompetent mis-manager has not been heard from since his ill-advised and polarizing interview on Avsim. Paul Lange, a long time veteran of Aces Studio and MSG Studio left the Flight team " to work on other projects" a couple weeks ago. Even the official spokesperson in the beta forum and on steam left to take a job with another developer. So, really the only surprise was how soon it happened. After Microsoft took a big paper loss last week I suppose the low income fringe projects were doomed.
So, I have decided to opt out of the bitching and moaning and stop reading the forums (except here.) If I get the urge to pretend I am flying I will start up Flight and choose one of the 5 complete aircraft I have and go enjoy the best and most immersive computer flying that has ever been available. I won't worry about what's coming next because that is likely nothing.
If I get the urge to fly something bigger or more complex, I'll fire up FSH&B and by sticking inside Orbx territory the 2D cartoon world will not be visible,
But I suspect the bulk of my gaming time will be driving a train in Railworks 3. I just checked my time in game for all 3 and the score since January 4th is as follows. FSX=13.6 hrs, Flight=149.8 hrs and RW3=327.3 hrs.
So, from me you'll hear no whining. Not even about the gleeful comments and victory dances from those who are celebrating the end of Flight. Time to make the lemonade.
