Yeah. Well, I was on active duty in the Air Force from the early 70s to the late 90s with almost 9 years in SAC.
I'd never heard the term BUFF until years after I retired. Universally, we called them BUFs: Big, Ugly Fellows (and, no, the "F" didn't mean "fellow" at all).
My era was when the first crews began being younger than the aircraft. The nose area no longer resembles what my guys had to walk around as a way of life - and Griffiss AFB, NY, and Minot AFB, ND, were tough places to have to walk around a BUF over a frigid midnight shift in January. The shorter, stubbier tail and the massive modifications to the nose are the most noticeable changes since my era (a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...).
