Yah Steve, but I have mixed feelings about using the gamepads. The one I use is from GameStop. It is an Xbox clone and works rather well when setup correctly in each game. But, that's where things get a bit rough, the games, each has its own quirk when using the gamepad. I tried it in Euro Truck Simulator 2, not to my liking, I found my joystick works much better without having to spend big bucks on a steering wheel. Also, all my flight simulators don't work well with the gamepad, but that, I think, may have roots in my mind blocking the gamepad for use with flight. L. A. Noire, TS2014, Sherlock Holmes, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, LOTRO, Fallout 3 and some others work great with the gamepad, but you have to be able to tweak the control to your liking in the game. Some games won't allow access to this style control, and with some for good reason.

Thanks John.....interesting. I'm looking at a game called Star Citizen which is "scheduled" to be released in 2015. Web-site: robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Constellation-AndromedaWhile I was never a "Wing Commander" fan.....mostly because the machine I had at the time wouldn't run it....... I was a big fan of Chris Roberts "Privateer." I just found out about Star Citizen a couple weeks back, and I really like what I read and see. In fact, so much so....I've already purchased a couple ships, complete with hanger etc., etc., however, I have discovered while playing around with their "Arena" combat simulation.....my old Microsoft Joystick is just too outdated, and I stink when it comes to using a mouse and keyboard. So....the game itself is going to support a Game Pad, however, since I've never owned an X-Box or anything else.....I've never tried one. However, your comments are most encouraging....it sounds if the game is designed for a game pad...it might work nicely. On the plus side....I have quite a few months to talk to folks and read up on the device. Many Thanks Again!! Cheers,

WOW !! that's some serious gaming. OUCH !!! and damaging to the pocketbook. Anyway, to add a bit more to the discussion, there are differences between game controllers, gamepads, joystick, steering wheels and the like. To emphasize, the gamepad is actually a game controller which includes a keypad or keyboard, if you like, which adds the functionality of typing without using those virtual keyboards that the consoles are so fond of. At the time I bought mine it was called a gamepad, but has since been classified as a game controller, think console and the controllers that come with them. Take a look at these and you will see what I am talking about. Newegg.com game input devices As you can see, the word gamepad can mean many things. The first page of devices shows the controllers that come with game consoles as having two or three descriptions. A game controller usually has joysticks and buttons of different styles that are used to control your game, and like I said, the gamepad usually has an added keypad that is used for text. Of course, you know what joysticks and steering wheels are so no description is necessary.
I guess the thing to do is find out what is necessary to play the game, like do you need to type text when playing the game and does the game provide a virtual keyboard, and then that is if you will use the virtual as they can be very annoying. I play LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online), I use my game controller along with my keyboard as the game is an MMO and there is typing involved, not to mention voice which helps tremendously, so you may want to consider this option too when in the MMO side of your game. Kinda like playing multiplayer in FSX. Just some additional thoughts.

Is anyone using a Game Pad with computer games? ... I've used a Logitech pad for several years now, Steve, for flight and racing sims, including iRacing. No problems but a wheel would be preferable for the racing sims just for the finer linear control but I've become quite adept at using the pad. Fine for FS....the buttons and 'hat' controls are all very easy to use and manipulate and the two little joysticks are also easy to use for rudder/elevator. Should be fine for your intended use, Steve.

WOW !! that's some serious gaming. OUCH !!! and damaging to the pocketbook. John.....you don't HAVE to buy any of the ships etc., you can earn them as you play the game. In fact....at some point in time, you can no longer purchase ships.....they are only doing that to raise capital to develop the game etc. Example.....I purchased the Phoenix about 4 days ago, and it's no longer available to purchase. RSI is only releasing a fixed number of ships.........the rest will have to be earned "in game." Yep....I have a tad bit tied up already......mostly in a "belief" this will be an epic space program. In fact....I purchased 3 ships so far, mostly for exploration and cargo, as I have no intentions on trying to mix it up with these youngsters in a dogfight. (smile) However, on the big scheme of things..........I would hate to "think" or figure how much I've spent in flightsimming over the years. Probably give me nightmares. Looks like all the buttons, etc., are mapped out......it might be something I'll try. Let's face it.....the price of a good game pad is a heck of a lot cheaper than new joysticks these days. I pretty sure that some folks use game pads for Farm Simulator also..........so I might be able to kill two birds with one stone, as they say. Thanks again!!! Cheers,
