I just installed MoCat's treasure Island into Golden Wings, and went there to check in out. For he first time since being away from the hobby for a few years, and maybe foe the first time ever, I flew over San Francisco in GW and it was missing! Gone without a trace! Utterly absent! It was as if Bill Lyons' Wayback Machine ran amok, and instead of rolling SF back to the Golden Age of aviation, it rolled it back to some prehistoric time before humans inhabited North America.
Is it just my rig, or of SF really missing from GW?
Has anyone else run into this glitch? Is there a fix?

Hey Mick! Welcome back. I don't remember that happening before and to be honest, I haven't looked at GW for a long time. I know there are still a few avid users and they drop in from time to time so be patient. Someone is bound to have the answer.

Thanks Tom,
I hope so! I don't even know if this is unique to my system. I have four FS9 installations, GW, an FS9 set in the early fifties, one in the early sixties, and one in the modern era. I've flown around SF Bay in the past, before my hiatus from the hobby, but I don't recall whether I did it in GW, so I can't even say if SF has always been missing or if this is something new. So even if nobody has a fix, if I find out that others have the same issue or not, I''ll know that it's either an issue in GW, or something unique to my installation that I should be able to fix.

Mick I fly GW in FS9 and t/o from San Fran Int and surrounding area, shows no city scenery to speak of. Road grids but just a few block buildings. I don't have the Treasure Island scenery loaded..just GW.

I have three FS9 installations, GW, FS1954 and FS1962, plus a pretty much undeveloped FS2004 that I use mostly for painting planes because it loads so fast. In all except GW there is a downtown San Fransisco with a small cluster of high rise buildings in the heart of the city, and a smattering of large buildings a little ways south of there. It's nothing like the way some cities are depicted, like Boston or New York, but it gives the impression that there's a city there, especially if you don't look to closely. But in my GW there is nothing there at at all.
It's as though there were an exclude file at work. I did a test; I made a static aircraft model and placed it there. If I put it in a scenery folder low in the stack it doesn't show up, as if the exclude file was above it. If I put it in a folder high in the stack, it shows up. I was able to figure out the highest folder in the stack where it doesn't show, and the lowest one where it does. That should tell me where to find the guilty exclude file, but no! There are no exclude files in either of those folders, and they are both for sceneries located thousands of miles from San Fransisco.
It makes no sense. No sense at all. So instead of spending more time searching for the missing city, I've started to place some high rise buildings in the downtown location. I'm using Object Manager to place buildings from the stock FS9 generic building libraries. I couple dozen of them should be enough to make SF look like it does in the other sims - not very impressive, but at least giving the impression that there's a city there.
