One of the brilliant Nigel Gresley designs...probably the most recognisable Pacific style in the world.

I was privileged as a boy to experience the era when beauties like this were still being used. We used to go down to the local railway station, where there was a little yard from which goods were delivered to local customers using a small articulated truck pulled by a 3-wheeled Scammel tractor unit, and stand on the passenger bridge over the line as the steam engines passed beneath us with the driver giving us a hearty blast on the train's whistle. After an afternoon's train spotting we went home reaking of steam and smoke to be told off by our mums and made to take our clothes off to be washed, and jump in the bath before we smelt the house out! All changed now, of course. The goods yards and Scammels long gone and disappeared in the mists of time. From the age of 11 in 1957 until I began to ride the 8 miles by bike when I was about 14 or so I used to travel to school by electric passenger train from that station and the excitement was always when on the return journey the Southern Railway train being run was the already by then elderly double-decker.

I was privileged as a boy to experience the era when beauties like this were still being used....... We baby-boomers lived in wonderful times, really. Sure...there was crap that went with the good but when looking back, and hopefully without rose-coloured glasses, we can consider ourselves fortunate to have experienced stuff like that, Roger. Your reminiscence brings back similar memories of growing up a mere 200 metres (or yards, as it was back then) from the main North Coast line and having to wait at the level-crossing gates - when walking home from school - for the afternoon freight train to pass through. Putting pennies and half-pennies on the rail-head and being chased off the track by Miss Davis, the gate-keeper! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_D59_class_locomotive

I wouldn't buy it before then. At that time TS2017 (the basic gane) should be under $10 (Its $40 at the moment) You can check it out here: train-simulator.com/shop/train-simulator-2017/You get 4 routes, 1 US, 1 UK, 1 German, and one French and rolling stock for each. There is also a deluxe set train-simulator.com/shop/ts-2017-premium-edition/ that runs about $47 reg price which will probably sell for under $20 in June. The A4 Pacific is a separate add-on pack (reg price $28) probably on sale for half price in June train-simulator.com/shop/class-a4-pacifics/it includes Class A4 Pacific ‘Mallard’ in LNER Blue livery Class A4 Pacific ‘Dwight D Eisenhower’ in BR Green livery Class A4 Pacific ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ in BR Blue livery Class A4 Pacific ‘Union of South Africa’ in BR Green livery Class A4 Pacific ‘Bittern’ in LNER Blue livery Class A4 Pacific ‘Dominion of Canada’ in LNER Blue livery BR Mk1 passenger coaches Just one word of warning Vin.
