On Windows 7, I'm running BVE2, BVE4, BVE5, and Auran's Trainz UTC v1.5. I like steam locomotives the best! Thanks, Guys!

My train-simming is now confined to Run 8, (predominantly), Open Rails (occasionally) and TS2021 (infrequently). However, on an old Windows XP laptop....still in top condition....I have BVE and Train Master 4, both of which got a run last Wednesday when I was away from home for two days.

Ive never had any luck with Open Rails, Deleting OpenBVE resulted in a gain of 7 Gigs on the hard drive! A 25 megabyte OpenBVE loco was occupying 250 MB! A gentleman on www.trainsim.com released the freeware SteamSim in 32 bit and 64 bit versions! OpenTTD is another Train Sim that I like! Thanks, bhk! Christopher Tarana

I'm using TS2021 and occasionally Train Sim World, however, I have never fully embraced TSW. I just saw today that TSW2 is now out. I have enough invested in TS2021 that should last a life time I suppose. I recently took another look at Run 8. Judging from just the video's I've watched, Run 8 appears to look the most authentic and is VERY enticing...however, I now question my ability to get my head around something that complicated. (smile) I suppose given some time I could figure it out. It just seems I no longer have the desire to learn or tackle complicated computer games. I plan on watching a few more Run 8 video's and we'll see. (smile) Cheers,

(smile) Cheers, Steve, operating a train (as the engineer) is NOT complicated. If you want to be a "hands on, start the loco from cold" person then sure, they have what is termed a "hogger" mode but there is also an easier mode where you can fast-start the loco without having to hit every switch and button and in this mode the driving is also less serious. So once you choose a scenario, are in the cab and in charge of the train, it is then just a matter of following your nose and obeying signals. The bit that can be tricky - until you get used to it - is setting up the spawning and the despatching of AI. But that, in my view, just adds to the realism. Run 8 Studios are working on version 3, but with COVID-19 it may be on the back-burner and we may not see it for some time. This new version is supposed to include a major update to how the AI operates and has been pushed for by all those of us who do not multi-play but who operate as single players. I have recently recorded a series of videos, uploaded to YT, which follow a run from Fresno right across the system to Seligman, via Bakersfield, Tehachapi, Mojave, Barstow, Needles and then finally Seligman.....the first time since owning the sim that I've travelled the entire distance! Right now I'm in the throes of editing the last (#10) episode before uploading it. If you are interested here is the link to the first one......

Thanks Bruce.....I watched several video's last evening and I must admit I am intrigued. It's almost midnight so I'm off to bed. I'll give a view tomorrow of the video. Perhaps I'll put Run 8 on my Christmas wish list. (smile)
BTW...have you added and additional addon's to the game?
Cheers!

Bruce....I've watch 3 or 4 episodes and that is AMAZING!!! I must admit it did get my interest up. At first it looked really complicated with the dispatcher screen etc., however, by the 4th episode it wasn't so daunting....I think I could probably get my head around it. I did find the Run 8 web-site. Hmmm....might have to think about this for a while. My biggest issue.....between Flight & Rail Sim's & add-on's, I have enough invested to purchase a small 3rd world country. (smile)
Cheers,
P.S. I'll get through the rest of the series over the next week or so. Great Job!!!

BTW...have you added and additional addon's to the game? Yes, Steve: additional routes, some locomotives and several types of rolling stock. I still have some placeholder boxcars (the ones with "Run 8" on the sides, which substitute for stock not yet bought) and a couple of SD40 locos, similarly signed. These are the routes I have..... The Run 8 Studios site is not the easiest to navigate when it comes to purchasing stuff. They really need to get someone to manage it who has some basic skills in presenting an on-line store-front! But everything you need for the sim is on their site......there are no third-party add-ons and there are no editors, so your choices are all located at the one address.

Their stuff isn't bargain-basement priced but it is good quality and bug-free. It's also the best simulation of US A-Class railroading and has excellent dynamics.
