Hi Steve, hello again everyone. I'm afraid life has been incredibly hectic over the past few weeks. I've been working all hours in the house and I've not had the time to come back in here until I just decided to pop in while having a quick cuppa tea.
Here in France it's usual for the buyer of a new house ie me in this case, to lay the flooring in the bedrooms, decorate right through the whole interior, install the kitchen and any other fittings not included in the basic contract which for me included the hand basin in the bathroom, the shower screen for the walk-in shower and a couple of wall cabinets also in the bathroom plus other sundries. The latter has included two fitted Ikea wardrobes with full height mirror doors in bedrooms one and two, but I'm getting there.
I finished bedroom one last week and I'm painting the white walls in bedroom two today and the coloured wall tomorrow hopefully. Then it's onto bedroom three which is much more straightforward. I've had a delayed start this morning as I've been up a ladder moving my satellite dish back into position after it was buffeted for the second time by a strong westerly wind.
I know how you feel about dust and chaos Steve. It must be harder for you with your whole family being affected - at least I only have myself to worry about. Even so, I'll be glad to see the end of it but doing it all myself the final detail work will be dragging on for some time to come I think even when the main jobs have been completed.
Nige, I am still flying but with the house demands I haven't flown for months. When there's been good weather I've not been able to take the time out and when I've had a moment the weather has invariably been poor. Plus you need to have the right mindset to be able to concentrate totally while in the air and not have other stuff on your mind, which has been difficult while in the thick of all the house work.
Bruce, I guess you're fully settled in again by now down south again, closer to your family? I hope you and Shirley have got over the episodes of ill health you were both going through. It's no consolation to know that it's something that most of us have to endure as we grow older but it's marvellous what the medical profession can do to keep us old crocks motoring on, isn't it
Well, I've got to get cracking otherwise I won't get anything done again today. Hope to be back in again soon.
Bye for now,
Roger
PS A few weeks ago I was approached by the Daily Telegraph in the UK to write a piece about my house build. You'd need a subscription to read it but I put a copy of it onto my blog. It looks different but the content and pictures are the same.
