Hi all remaining FS9 vintage afficionados! For several reasons I would try to revial this honorable site. Vintage flying could still be an exciting und very interesting era. It also would be a kind of late appreciation of all efforts and great contributions made by Lynn and Bill Lyons, Tom Constantine, Dennis Simanaitis, MoCat and the any others. All these have allowed to render "Golden Wings" so popular and highly estimated by a very recognizing FS9 community. For many but partially incomprehensible reasons vintage flying lost his attraction, although it needs much less infrastructures than modern FS9 era. In order to test compability and resonance I publish this short report of Capt. Ernest Hoy's first airmail flight across the Rocky Mountains. In August 1919. He flew with a Curtiss Jenny from Vancouver to Calgary and did stops at Vernon, Grand Forks (BC), Cranbrook an Lethbridge. I choose the FS9 default Jenny with RCFC Toronto textures, the only one depicting a canadian type, for recreating this memorable flight. Capt. Hoy taking off at Vancouver Minuro Racetrack and heading east Approaching Vernon, the Jenny flies over the upper part of the Okanagan Lake, well known in FS9 Capt. Hoy reaches Lethbridge and the wide plaines of Finally the first flgiht over the Rockies approaches Calgary where he touch down after a total flight of sixteen hours and fourty-two minutes. If someones are interested to keep vintage flying alive again, I would be very pleased to get at least your feedback or contribute with their own threads. Thanks anyway. Bernard

Hi Bernard- Welcome to the ghost of flightsims past. I hope you can gather a crowd of Golden Age enthusiasts. Good luck with that. FYI, There is a company making 1935 scenery for the NEW MSFS. If I were younger and had more energy I would be jumping on that myself. FS2020 or whatever its real name is is really nice. But my interest in simming has dimmed with age. You will fin a few of us "old folks" occasionally meet in the Pilot's Grill. You are welcome to join us there and please consider this forum your home. Be patient though. It took months to get a dozen members here in the beginning.
Those are great pictures. I got very nostalgic looking at them.

Although I have not had flightsim for many years I have a lot of happy memories of FS9, Golden Wings, Silver Wings, anything by the Lyons and too many other people to mention. I did make my own small contribution to flightsim. I made the scenery for Pancho Barnes' Happy Bottom Riding Club. I uploaded it to Flightsim and Avsim with the usual caveats about it not being uploaded anywhere else. Despite this I have found it all around the world! I don't mind. The more the merrier.
A friend has suggested that I revive my interest in flightsimming as the modern flightsims are breathtaking. I may think about it although it would mean trading my old laptop for a few thousand dollars worth of top-end computer. Maybe or maybe not.
P.S. I also uploaded a small file to make the default Edwards south base runway landable, but this feeble effort got totally blown away by Dennis Waggoner's stunning Edwards scenery, which quickly became my default start position.

Tom, thank you very much for the quick and kind feedback. I'm happy to be able to contribute my experiences and implementations here, and hopefully to receive any new inputs and suggestions. I hope this also corresponds to your purpose and that of the website. Unfortunately, I'm not a gifted scenery creator, and I'm more focused on bringing existing things together. And there are still some of them that are presented in the right place at the right time. Bruce, thanks for your welcome too. I'm very glad to meet you here, especially since I have a lot of sceneries, aircraft and flight plans integrated in my FS. The flight plans however as AI traffic. These fit perfectly with the CalClassic retro world, which I also run intensively along with the Roaring Thirties. Many thanks to both of you and a big apprecation for the work you have done and your contributions in keeping FS9 so interesting! Nigel, I know your Pancho Barnes' Happy Bottom Riding Club scenery. She's already given me an opportunity to post. I enhanced a little bit the scenery! Thanks for this contribution too. Bernard

Good day all! Great pics above. I have just sort of stumbled across this forum while searching online for other FS9-related information. I am still quite active in flight swimming, using FSX-SE and FS9 on about a 50-50 basis. I'm in my late 60s and have been flight-simming in one form or another for many years. I still recall running MS Flight Simulator on my old DOS 6 PC. I've been very active on FSEconomy for nearly 10 years now. I have no interest in moving up to MSFS2020 and am quite satisfied with FSX and especially FS9 due to still having many addon aircraft that have never become available on FSX. I have no special interest in Golden Age flying, although I will state that I also have no interest in modern "tubeliners" or any aircraft with "glass" cockpits. I much prefer to fly older aircraft with strictly analogue instruments. That's about it for now. Just thought I would give a shout-out here as I do still enjoy using FS9. Cheers all!

Oh my goodness......What a WONDERFUL surprise to see some dear old friends and an interest in Flightsimming again. I have to admit that I too kind of lost interest several years back.....but recently (through a dear friend).....found the thrill and excitement in VR Goggle flying in the New Flightsim. Finally picked up the computer of my dreams and have a new set of goggles on order which should be arriving in the next several weeks. (I went with Big Screen Beyond goggles)
However, with my old pair of Oculus goggles, it is still breath taking and has never been so real in my life. Especially in the older aircraft. (Carenado's Cessna 195 is amazing as well as others)
When I first started Flightsimming (FS3...early eighties).....the ground was green and the sky blue....and Microsoft only had a few cities to fly in. Folks like Bill Lyons, Tom and others is what really made me enjoy the sim. Things only got better over the years.....however, by FSX, I was starting to somewhat lose interest. With MSFS 2020 and the goggles....it's is now turning into something I've always wanted it to be. Almost every flight is a "WOW" moment anymore....especially with some of the newer "Study Level" aircraft. (A2A's Piper Commanche comes to mind)
Great seeing everyone still around!!
Cheers,

It is great to find that there are still quite a few of us FS9'ers out there, especially those that enjoy Vintage flying. Over time, I had also lost interest in simming, until I found Garry Smith's Ford Tri-Motor project site. He had always said that simming is all about Fun, Facts & Fiction. So, here I am.. Bernard's pictures & stories are very evocative & he really shows how the good old days of flying was, & we can take ourselves back to those times.
Thanks, all, for the memories..
