I'm considering purchasing a registry cleaner to improve system performance, specifically, looking at the Systweak Advanced System Optimizer v2.01.
Just curious - is it likely that a utility such as this would screw up FS-related installations, i.e. payware or freeware stuff with auto-installers which make a registry entry?
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks,
Wayne

I have been using a registry cleaner for a few years now and I have never had any problems with it messing up FS or any related applications.

Any good registry cleaner will offer to back-up the original registry. I also use a cleaner; it's freeware and so far I've had no issues after 2 months.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. In spite of suffering from a moderate case of RAD (Registry Anxiety Disorder), I do believe I'll try it out.

Wayne, I started using Microsoft's freeware reg cleaner several years ago. No problems at all. Currently use it sometimes and also another freeware one. Again, no problems.

CCleaner is the only way to go! ;D I downloaded it to test it out once, and it worked SO well that I am still using it. I was able to clean up 2 gigabytes of space with CCleaner. It cleans the registry, deletes cookies, and a LOT of other stuff. You can even do registry issue searches, and back up the registry. And best of all... it's free!I HIGHLY recommend this program: ccleaner.com/

Thanks for the tip on ccleaner, scubakobbe, I've also been in the market for a registry cleaner and this one seems like a good choice.

I hope it works out good for you, I'm sure it will. I was amazed at how much space it freed up, so much so that I thought it was a bug when I first saw that: "3,402 MB" removed. 3.4 Gig's, safely removed, in 2 minutes!

I've used a 'Registry Cleaner' for over a year now and while it always seemed to worked fine, I tried CCleaner over the weekend and it was amazing how much more 'errors' it found. But, also re-ran the previous one right after this one and it found additional errors - so, it seems they all look for different things/items/etc.
CCleaner seems better and more thorough, as it looks for and cleans out additional 'stuff' then many other programs out there. ;D
Thanks Scubakobbe for posting this!

CCleaner also works very well when uninstalling and installing new graphic card drivers. After you have uninstalled your old drivers run CCleaner before you install your new drivers to get rid of all references to your old drivers.
