Have downloaded and installed and flown the Howard 500 ...sweet! But a question, how does one make it a bit more user friendly on the ground, namely more stearable? Dale

Dale,
If you open the aircraft.cfg there is a section about tailwheel steering. Milton has already set it up, all you need to do is turn it on. I think there is a mention about it buried in the readme (look in the AC container folder).
In the config look for: ------------- [contact_points]
max_number_of_points = 7
//point.0 = 1, -38.815, 0, -1.1, 1574.803, 0, 0.667, 60, 0.3, 3, 0.5, 3, 5, 0, 194, 220 //Replace contact_point.0 below with the one above if you want a steerable tailwheel point.0 = 1, -38.815, 0, -1.1, 1574.803, 0, 0.667, 180, 0.3, 3, 0.5, 3, 5, 0, 194, 220 point.1 = 1, 1.65, -9.75, -7.022, 1574.803, 1, 1.708, 0, 0.8, 1.5, 0.7, 1.8, 3, 2, 194, 220 point.2 = 1, 1.65, 9.75, -7.022, 1574.803, 2, 1.708, 0, 0.8, 1.5, 0.7, 1.8, 3, 3, 194, 220
point.3=2, -0.9, -37.0, 3.05, 800.0, 0, 0.00, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.0, 5.0, 0.0, 0.0 point.4=2, -0.9, 37.0, 3.05, 800.0, 0, 0.00, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.0, 6.0, 0.0, 0.0 point.5=2, -41.5, 0, 1.30, 800.0, 0, 0.00, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.0, 9.0, 0.0, 0.0 point.6=2, 13.4, 0, 4.00, 800.0, 0, 0.00, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.000, 0.0, 0.0, 4.0, 0.0, 0.0

In the aircraft.cfg. look for this section:

I tried that change... actually it is the same as was there... so until I can figure this out... it is brakes and rudder ... however the differential brakes tend to stick ... any tips would be welcome..

What we need for Howards, DC-3s, and a few other twins is 1) a set of split throttles and 2) an xml or two that will allow for differential power for steering these beauties on the ground. An extra set of hands would help too.

An extra set of hands would help too. I have a throttle quadrant and rudder pedals and I can still ground loop the default DC-3.

Never had a problem steering the H500. Taildraggers are old beasts...take it or leave it! welcome to the H500 Fan Club Dale! (I'll release a new skin for xmas... hopefully) Edit: don't forget to download the updated cfg file (more realistic behaviour) and the updated mdls; there's even a "light" that has fewer lods in the vc; and smoke effect too. www.flightsimonline.com/howard500/Howard500down.htm

thanks ... just downloaded it ... had installed the no VC version ... had originally installed the VC version .... but my meek Dell 2350 ... even with a 3 ghz processor and a gig of ram still spurts and sputters it way through programing .. especially flightsim (I am convienced that it is MY machine... not necessarily the series even, as mine was a prooblem from the very day I recieved it four yrs a go) -some VC aircraft are..for me ... system killers .... and interestingly how it manifests itself is through the soundcard .... go figure. SO certain VCs .... no problem ... others not. It isn't even designer dependant . I have made some changes.. like unless I fiy it .. it isn't in the system.. meaning leaving AI aircraft as the only ones available to the system to populate the skies. The other great aircraft are located in a "hanger" outside the simulator and pulled out when needed. For some reason, even outside sceneries of airports have been a problem. Some little "fixes" I am learning and am trying out are setting auto gen and scenery complexity on normal until airborne... the "FPS" Bar I have yet to figure out what is a good setting (suggestions welcome) With the downloaded "for Your hw5vc4 Aircraft Folder offers improved FPS and Smoother Gauge Performance" file from the site you gave me ...when I return from hospital this afternoon, downlaod the VC version and give her a try (keeping both in place) That is why I loooking upon FSX as ... great for other people's machines ... LOL We have so many hyper-techno and experienced simmers whose tips are wonderful ... but really geared for the "mega-machines" .. would love to see one devoting time to tips for the modest machine...

Block Fps somewhere between 20 and 24; to leave the 'puter spending valuable resources is useless. Ai is a great perfomance killer, so I always leave beetween 10 and 30 % (but hey, I am not very friendly either, lol). And, if you have lot of AI planes not suited for AI (it is, with very heavy mdls) then you'll bring your sistem to your knees, no matter if it is a last generation super pc! Try the last model Milton's did (the "friendly update released some weeks ago, the one called 11\06) and it'll help you with fps a lot. This is my last paint for the Mighty Howard. The guy who sent me the request, had flew a Howard painted like this, and asked me to do for FS. May be out for the weekend.
