FS9 just hasn't been performing well in the past few months. I don't know why, but I think my best bet to fix it is to buy a new processor. I will save up for a nice one and hope for some magic to happen when I install it. ;D But, if FS9 is going to look like this then I might be moving on to FS-X for the same exact FPS performance but without problems like this: I get about 10 FPS in virtual cockpit when looking around, but if I look straight down at the ground I get 25 and the textures will automatically load. This sort of performance is enough to make me get a new processor, and a 3.0 should perform well, maybe it's just Intel. Note, in that picture I have ZERO autogen, weather set to appear at 60 miles, and view distance at 110 miles. Global texture res is set to High. These are the same settings I have in FS-X. Hmm...

I'd guess that you're in "tower view" in that screenie, Kobbe?
Tower view never renders ground textures well, especially at a distance.

Kobbe, I agree with Roger, looks pretty typical for that type of view (tower or other distant view, possibly zoomed). In effect your looking over the top of/beyond the higher LOD terrain beneath the eyepoint. Steve Lacey's blog on 'The Blurries' might be of interest. 'I get about 10 FPS in virtual cockpit when looking around, but if I look straight down at the ground I get 25.....'. When 'looking around' the sim must draw more terrain and also the 3-d clouds which, along with ai, are some of the heaviest draws on FPS. When looking down there's less terrain to draw and no clouds (or ai). You could try reducing your 'sight distance' to 60 mi. Also reducing the 3d cloud percent and density may help. Also, make sure there are no unecessary programs or processes running in the background. Dave

Oh, lol, yah that is in tower view but it isn't uncommon for me to run in to that sort of stuff when flying in fast jets.
It HAS to be my processor. My brother can run full autogen without lagging in FPS on his computer that has a dual-core processor.
Why are things so expensive these days? ;D
I will try bringing down my cloud density and sight distance to see if that helps.
