Does anyone with a functional Hex Editor want to do me a favor? I had the demo, but time expried. I need a VC removed from the TBM700 to hold me until I get a better video card. Some VCs work -- others that are more complicated stall the system. This way I could use the 700 in a 2d mode until I upgrade. even "passing through" the VC is often a death knell for the flight.

Using your version.. but with the instructions from this older post: "Open the mdl file you want to edit and search for the following hex value: 0022003900 In the SECOND occurrence of that string, simply change the 39 in 0022003900 to 00. It should now look like this: 0022000000. Save the changes, OK the creation of the backup file then exit the editor to test it out in MSFS.
Method:
Open the .mdl file, hit Ctrl+F and enter 0022003900 in the "Find" box. To eliminate the vc, you must change the 39 in the SECOND occurrence of this string to 00. NOTE: Since this same string appears several times in the file, you must be careful to alter the correct string. For example, in the DC-3.mdl, altering the FIRST string only loses the plane's shadow, so leave this string intact and hit "Find next". Changing the 39 to 00 in the SECOND string loses the vc.
Do not change all the strings 0022003900. Because then you would make not only the VC invisible, but also the landing lights and even the plane itself, so make only the change to the string that handles the VC.
It has been determined that only the second occurrence of the 0022003900 string concerns the virtual cockpit, the first occurrence switches off the A/C shadows."
I did as mentioned .. ctl+F clicked on "hex string" entered ... 0022003900 it is set at "case sensitive" Direction "down", scope "down" and hit enter message come back "Hex sting invalid.

now.. tried different method ... entered 39 00 it found it so a search I suppse for that value .. the first line (B06) contained none of the other numbers in this string... 00 22 00 39 00 around it... hit find again ... there is was in line B28 ... so I assume that to be the first instance. Hit it again ... this time in B4A .. so am I correct,,, that is the second instance? now to change it? ? Not going to at this point ... going to exit and go for a walk ... LOL. Just wanted to make sure I got this part correct. and THANKS for everyone's help with this. Dale

Hi Dale, I use the first steps you mentioned in your first post. Basically I open the MDL file and then... Click Search, Find, ...I then enter 00 22 00 39 00 ,click Ok. This will find the first instance. I then click Search, Find Again Down, and then replace the 39 with 00 in the big window. The cool part about this Hex Editor is that it remembers the 00 22 00 39 00 junk so you don't have to type it each time you use the editor. Brian
