Tom, have you ever heard of anyone having two separate installations of FS 9 on different drives. I doubt that it would work, probably really screw up the registry, but I am greedy, I'd like to fly in the late 30s and 40s, but I would also like to fly my 12 hour flights in the PMDG 747-400. I was wondering if I could install FS9 updated with GW on a 1 gig san disk cruzer, then boot from the cruzer by clicking on the FS9 exe? I know, kinda lame, but just wondering if you had heard of anything like this. GB

I think its possible to have seperate installs on different drives. BUT it would need far more than 1 Gig. Probably 4 gigs minimum for a seperate install.I'll test the seperate drive idea and let you know.

I think it's possible by just copying and pasting the entire game folder. I use this for my other favorite game: Rome-Total War. Thus I can have a modded and unmodded version of the game.

New guy here... But yes it is possible. Even possible to have 'em on the same HDD like me... I have one HDD for FS stuff only. Last week end with Bill's announcement for "Golden Wings III" I started preparing for it... What I did was put in FS9 disc 1 and went the install route. But picked the custom install. When asked where I was putting it selected the HDD I wanted and changed the name of the main folder.... So now when you look into my HDD wi/ FS you can see both folders like so... D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Games\Flight Simulator 9 for the "present day" FS and... D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Games\Golden Wings III for the "Oldies but Goodies" FS. Then created a shortcut for the new install and renamed it "Golden Wings III" prior to placing it next to my FS9 shortcut on my start bar. The cool thing is both installs us the same fs9.cfg So if yo u have a lot of tweeks there, no need to redo it all for the new install. I don't put add-on scenery in the main FS folder anywhere, I'm set-up with a folder named... D:\Scenery So basicly there I fired up "Golden Wings" and installed certian sceneries that I could cross over -meshs mostly at this point. But the point is by using the D:\scenery set-up I won't have dual copies of sceneries on the HDD. Note: for those that caught the different wallpapers in the screenies, no I didn't change 'em for the screenies Dual Monitor set-up here, and the question has come up before.

Hello GB, It is possible to have 2 fs2004 installations on the same hard drive. I now have 5 active fs2004 installations! There will be instructions in GW to install either by making a copy of your current installation or making a fresh one for GW. Either way will work. Mesh can be accessed from one location by both installs so no large duplication there. Best, Bill

This is very interesting. Did you also know that it is possible to have multi-fs9.cfg files too? Here is how using p3's example.
I your basic FS9 folder leave the exe as is. Don't touch it. In the Golden Wings install, change the FS9.exe to GoldenWings.exe. You can either double click this name or create your shortcut. What this will do is create a new fs9.cfg but called GoldenWings.cfg into the same folder as the FS9.cfg (provided you are using WinXP).
I have two seperate exe's in the main folder, one as installed, and the other for the MS utility no one is allowed to talk about.
The positive side, you can experiment with FS settings in one install over the other. The downside, you will need to re-map any key commands, unless you copy the FS9.cfg to the other filename.

I actually found that by mistake. I didn't want to overwrite the orginal FS9.exe so made the new one and found 2 copies of the cfg.
I haven't figured out how to make multi-cfg's of the others yet though, like the scenery file.

I haven't figured out how to make multi-cfg's of the others yet though, like the scenery file. Zoren I have different scenery cfgs in each install. And I have all my FS Genesis mesh in area based folders on a different drive. For the second install, I activated only the add-ons I wanted in the scenery library by pointing to their location in the original install or to the mesh on the other drive. As an example, I have John Young's modern (and very accurate) KBGR in the defauilt, but 1936 vintage Bangor Muni in FSGW. So far no problems
