Hi all, First time poster here Bill's Custom Classics, Golden Wings etc are recent discoveries for me and I have to say I'm amazed. My flight simming has been totally transformed. I'm loving the Goose especially, but I'm having some trouble getting it to fly according to the numbers on the kneeboard at anything over around 5000 ft. At altitude, MP drops to around 20" and no adjustments I make seem to prevent the Goose from just wallowing around at around 85kts. Am I doing something wrong here? The numbers in the kneeboard quote maximum cruise of 195kts at 9000ft. So far, I haven't been able to get to 9000ft at anything approaching 100kts. Any advice or observations most gratefully received! Regards, Lewy

Welcome Lewey! I'll try the goose at altitude and report back. As a 'low and slow' flyer I only go that high to do altitude tests, lol. Roger

Hey Roger, thanks for taking the time and trouble to look at this Seems like you're doing better than me, even got a bit of a climb going on there so I'll need to keep at it! Out of interest, what was your mixture setting when you took that screenshot? Had you leaned it out? Interesting to see the disparity between the guages and the shift/Z readout for indicated airspeed. I notice this on a lot of add-on planes. Which do you go by for dead reckoning purposes? Thanks again for your input! Lewy

No mixture other than auto mixture Lewey. The concensus seems to be that in 99% of cases auto mixture is best in Fs2004. As for indicated airspeed, the gauge is in MPH whereas the Shift/Z reading is in Kias consequently the MPH reading is higher.

Still doesn't answer your question though. Maybe try auto mixture if you haven't already? Roger

Well, I've been experimenting. Taking a slow climb, I can cruise at around 140 - 145 mph at 9500' That's with the mixture leaned out, RPM of 2100 and MP of 20.5" Now, that's with the throttle full forward, which to me says that the plane simply cannot fly to the stated max cruise numbers because you can't achieve the manifold pressure - there's no way of getting it above 20.5" at that altitude. I don't know enough about FS aircraft design to hazzard a guess at why this might be. It might even be that the data that went on the kneeboard was for a supercharged variant, you never know. Not that any of this detracts from the enjoyment of what has become my main aircraft in FS9 and GW3 Update - after a bit more experimentation, I went into the aircraft and modified the engines to be supercharged. Guess what ...... it now flies exactly to the numbers quoted on the kneeboard - 190mph at 23" mp and 2100rpm at 9000'
