I have downloaded and installed the Lyons Grumman Goose. When I select the goose, I get the preview pic, but then when I select "Fly Now" FS9 shuts down, suddenly.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, even tried adding the aircraft manually, no luck.
I know I have done something wrong as I see all the positive feedback on this airplane and am eager to fly it after doing so in Whitehorse a few years ago.
Any ideas? Thanks everyone!

That is a strange one Mark! Did you do a manual install or let the auto installer do its thing? Someone with more knowledge of this sort of problem is sure to chime in but maybe I can be of some limited help to you. Don't give up on the Goose, its a great plane!
Cheers,
Phil

I forget- is there a .dll file that needs to be placed somewhere? (Most likely FSsound.dll, which will need to go in the Modules folder.)
Personally, I try to install everything to a temporary directory and move files where they need to go. That way, I can eliminate what I don't want in my system.

Hi Phil
Thanks for your reply! I have done both manual and auto install. I extracted teh contents of the zip folder to a folder in my system and then copied files over to the folders in the FS9 directory.
Same reactions both times. I think there may be some module files in my system that should not be there. I get 2 notices on start up of module files that are questionable. I have yet to find them on the FS9 CD's, but am searching.
I think the current goose problem is airplane related as i only experience this type of shutdown with this plane.
Any help or advice you can give is greatly appreciated.
Thank you. mark

Hi railrunner.
No dll file, just the .exe and some pics. Bill advised against the manual install, but I wanted to try it anyway to see if I could do it. No luck. Sorry Bill, should not have doubted you. Mark

OK, Mark lets see what we can do. I have a few questions first. Can you give us your system specs? Video and sound especially. Can you tell us exactly what error messages you get? Can you tell us how far you get loading before the crash? The more detail you can give, the better chance it will ring a bell.
And I'm going to move this just a little bit to the Custom Classics support forum. There has been a lot of discussion of the Goose previously, perhaps a solution may already have been found.

Hi Tom
Good to hear from you. Here are the answers you seek
Can you give us your system specs? Video and sound especially.
W XP Home Pentium 4 3.2 ghz 1 g RAM Video is a Radeon X800 Sounds is Soundblaster Live 24-bit
Can you tell us exactly what error messages you get? I receive no error messsages.
Can you tell us how far you get loading before the crash? In Create a flight, I choose the goose. When the goose appears in the preview window, I select OK. Then select "Fly Now" FS9 moves to splashscreen and shows "Loading Scenery objects" then shuts down completely.
The more detail you can give, the better chance it will ring a bell.
And I'm going to move this just a little bit to the Custom Classics support forum. There has been a lot of discussion of the Goose previously, perhaps a solution may already have been found.
I will try the thread you mentioned and let you know. If the above rings any bells, please let me know.
Thanks Tom. I appreciate the support! Cant wait to fly the Goose.

Hi Tom
I tried removing that guage, and all is well! Thank you, what a great plane!
Now, any suggestions on reinstating that gauge and why it may interfere? All drivers are up to date.
Would enjoy using that radio. Minor thing though, respond if you are able.
I appreciate your help in just getting me airborn. mark

My guess is its a conflict between the radio gauge and your sound card. I had that problem in the Travel Air and a new sound card fixed it. BUT you already have a better sound card. You could experiment with substituting the radio gauge from another of Bill's planes.
