Don't know if this is the right place to ask... does anyone know the original length of the two main runways at LaGuardia when it opened... or in that time frame.

Hi Dale- The field that became LaGuardia was for a while a private field (1929-1936) Fiorello made it into New York Municipal Airport in 1937 and it was renamed after him in 1947. I don't have any information about the interim but this is what it was in 1936 before it became a city airport. Its listed here as municipal but described as private at this time in the LGA history. www.theoldhangar.com/Not LGA yet.jpg[/img]

Excellent- That sight looks great. I see the runway lengths are indicated too. What year are you building it for?

Well.... DO remember this is ONLY a game... probably around the late 30s (Darn Lynn and Bill - Their fault they got me started on this putzing around ... LOL) Last night I found a fs2002 scenery file for Bennet Field ... I installed it ... and configed it into FSNAV ... this gave me an afcad image ... using that as a makeshift template for position and one old photo ... I put in the basics as it appeared around 1936 or so ... here is a website that has some great photos (AND OTHER "FORGOTTEN" airports as well) -- www.airfields-freeman.com/index.htm - What I untimately ended up with Was Bennet Field ... I am - sadly, not really a scenery designer - whish I was ... I just use both RWY12 and Lago FSE to supply substance. - Figured Flush with Success ... I would next attempt to do something simular with LaGuardia. I know the piece mentions four runways... but can't find anything that indicated where the dhorter two were located... using the default - I have thus far... shortened them to 6 and 5 thousand feet respectively ... Reclaimed a lot of the concrete around them ... the only default building remaining is the Marine Terminal ... That is now isolated from the main airport ... I place a road leading up to it ... and a dock for Clippers.... I haven't found a good source for old 30s photos of the main Airport facility .. I remember from long ago... visiting LGA - but the images are vague ... I think my overal goal of this entire experiment - as I am teaching myself things as I go ... (directions ... we don't need no stinkin' directions) is to turn JFK back into a masive tract of swamp and marshlands YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Dale Just drop by to check responses... going to fire up the simulator ... and see what I created... as I was working in AFCAD... Now, if this begins to look good and make some sense... if there is anyone out there that knows how to take some of the fantastic... real scenery people old time buildings, hangers, terminals, and such and convert them over to RWY12 compatable sutff ... first I am SURE they would love it, as would those who use RWY12... I KNOW I WOULD. Dale

Hi Dale- Just a heads up before you get too involved with Floyd Bennett, it will be included in Golden Wings. LGA will not be in the initial release (as far as I know LOL)
BTW William Shea has made Roosevelt Field (3 versions)

The news about Floyd Bennett Field -- GREAT ... as I am still learning this stuff .... Going to go look for Bill's stuff now ... regarding LGA ... going to continue on with it ... remember... for me, this is just using Lago and RWY12 stuff ... so there is no custom work, as such involved. Perhaps, it is at worst ...very good pratice. just finsihed eliminating the remainder of the LGA stuff ... namely the last of the taxi way signs.... and that one high bridge... as that was not a common building tech in the 30s. If I am not mistaking ... can't I make JFK vanish in one key stroke ... Delete ... in AFCAD ... ? just right hold on the mouse ... encoumpas the airport area... and BLAMO it is gone ... then use EXCBuilder to make those hiddious buildings disappear. If so .... NYC and the financial district are next..... hehehehehehehehe ... sorry , got carried away. but I do think some back-dating is possible for the City... if no one hasn't done so already.. checking on that now Dale
