Sorry to take so long to update this, guys. I am reading everything I can on splines and trying to understand it. It seems like this may open a few avenues beside this one, so I want to get it before i proceed. I'm not having much luck... ;D

indeed it will!
you'll be a real modeler not just a "vert pusher" ;D
think of it like this...
a patch, is just like the ones mom used to iron on your jeans. it has 4 corners, it's flexible in any direction, and can be placed anywhere you want it.
now, if your going b*lls out and stepping up to spline modeling, you have much to learn, but it's easy to apply.
With splines, you basically redraw the 3 view with more detail and accuracy. You should have a 2d frame in all 3 views before you even lay the skin.
Sometimes splines, or verts or shapes are only used as nothing more than a place to snap a patch to. It might take 2 hours to draw a few splines that will never be seen in the end.
im very excited for you, this is a big step, and i remeber my 1st steps into it well.
You will be a much more skilled builder when you get it.
good luck,
emails always open if you need help, or here.

So here we are, back in the saddle. Obviously, this is not a finished windscreen yet and I'll almost certainly rebuild the whole thing before this is over. I also made two littl patches to fill in the curves in the corners to the rear of the cockpit. Right now, I have a pretty wierd problem. I've been adjusting the beziers in my trim, then checking the position by converting it to an editable patch to see what it looks like. It gave me a nice solid picture to look at to see how I was doing. Somehow, when I do it now, everything just disappears. The trim is still there, but I can't see it... Anyone got an idea about that? With the outlined trim... Converted to editable patch...

It needs a cross section modifier b4 you can convert it to a patch.
it's better to follow the steps i outlined than converting it to a patch 1st.
draw your splines add a cross section mod. add a surface modifier.
then it should be fine to convert it to a patch. w/o the cross sections.. it dont know what you want it to do so it does nothing.
