I seem to have landed in the third world (where computers are concerned) ;D My company has sent me to Gainesville Texas to do a job. It looks like I'll be here for a bit longer than initially planned, so I thought "America? This is the home of the PC... there must be a good PC shop around every corner... I should use the opportunity to buy up some new hardware..." Gainesville is dead folks! I asked at the hotel reception here and "Jeepers, I don't know. We mail order." Not even the people at the (aerospace) company I am visiting seem to be flight simmers... Does anyone know where there is good computer shopping in this neck of the woods? At least the hotel has a small 900 Mhz, win98 PC for guest use so that I can be with my friends... ...and remember - don't take me too seriously about "third world"... only PC shops wise...

Have a rental car?? a 40 Mile Drive to Frisco, Texas gets you: BestBuyCircuit City & CompUSAa 47 mile Drive to Plano, Texas nets: BestBuyCircuit CityCompUSA & Fry's ElectroncsYou can get step by step directions to drive from the door of your hotel to the door of the store by going to the stores website through the "store locator" links... NOTE: CompUSA is a computer store straight up, to where the other's are "Electronics" stores with TV's/VCRs/Stereo's w/ a nice sized computer department. About the 3rd world crack, don't feel bad I live in Hawaii and until about 6/7 years ago to go to Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Curcuit City, BestBuy I had to go to California.... Hell BestBuy just opened their first store here couple weeks ago...

One thing you will find here in Texas are some friendly folk.
BTW, it looks like we will be evacuating because of Rita tomorrow. Hope to catch up with you all when we get back. Right now the track puts it pretty close to my home town. Hoping for the best.
Take care...

Yeah it does sound good Wozza, and I really do love my job - as it happens. Greece is cheaper to live, Germany - well a job's a job... and America - I go where I am sent, at least the bills are paid, but there's not much more benefit there. Swings and roundabouts - I don't get to see her indoors as much as I'd like to. What's more - I miss the dogs ;D
But as I said - I really enjoy the work... and that is worth a lot! Seeing as I spent five years without an real gainful employment and being homeless for a while too, I can understand where you are at Wozza.
Good luck Snowman. The hotels in Gainesville are mostly booked up already - you might have to go further north - to Okla even? ;D
