Has anyone got Martin Wright's program ModelColor working?
I have it installed but I can't get it to work.
What prompted me to ask is that I stumbled onto something that would fill a big gap in our GW3 aircraft lists: a Boeing P-26 Peashooter.
Ted Simko released it a couple years ago for FS2002 and it works perfectly in FS9; it doesn't even lose its prop.
Alas, he painted it in an overall screaming bright lurid Kelly green, which is probably why the model seems to have been overlooked and forgotten. But it's a really nice model, apart from the paint job.
The way the textures map makes it impossible for the wings and the gear spats to be different colors, which rules out the original OD & yellow livery and the later blue & yellow livery, but some P-26s survived long enough to wear the pre-war overall silver livery. I spent much of yesterday afternoon painting it up in overall silver with the markings of the 19th Pursuit Squadron.
Alas, some small parts of the model aren't textured, so they still show that lurid bright green, which is the color of the bare model.
If I could change the model's color to a silvery gray, my repaint would look good and I'd release it. I got the model loaded into ModelColor, did all the right things to change the color, saved the changes - and the model stayed green.
Maybe someone else could make it happen?
If so, it would be OK to release the modified model, since Ted released it into the public domain.

I think I have that model. It's a lovely little plane, even if the animations don't work.

A Peashooter would be great. I've looked at the Simko model but only briefly.

Hi Mick: I tried mdlcolor and it doesn't open anything in that p-26 model. Probably its not the right flavor of mdl file. MDLmat, also by Martin Wright, does open the p-26 model and shows a list of colors, including your favorite green! I won't have time to play with the p-26 for a week or so, but meanwhile, go to! Here is the link: www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/download/MDLMat.zipIts on Martin's download page: www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm ...protected by this disclaimer: "The programs available for download on this page are currently under development. They are not guaranteed to work perfectly and may have parts currently disabled.Feel free to download any of them for testing purposes.Use these Programs at your own risk! Beta means that bugs may exist so always back up any files that you use these Programs on" MDLMat ran just fine on my xp box.

A belated thanks for the heads up.
MDLmat did the trick, and you probably saw the P-26 I uploaded last week.
MDLmat also allowed me to do a whole series of new paints for Paul Clawson's SBC-4 Helldiver, uploaded to the Outhouse and FlightSim yesterday.
Next on the agenda, a long-delayed series of paints of Paul's Grumman FF-1, painted long ago but never released due to the untextured tail struts that clashed with any tail color except blue.
