Awhile back in a message someone said they could not create a building in Airport for Windows. I decided to give it a try and created the building below which doesn't look to bad. The next shot is of the setting I used to create the building. It is just a matter of trial and error. I used SceneGenX but it is the same. John

If you're referring to me, I didn't say I couldn't make buildings with Airport; in fact I'm in the process of creating a whole bunch of them just now. My complaint was that they won't take altitude settings; no matter what you dial in, they resolutely sit flat on the ground - and that means the GROUND, as in base terrain, you can't set them on top of any sort of elevated poly.
The only other thing I've got against Airport buildings is the rather limited range of textures available. But they certainly do work, and in fact I've been replacing most of the addon macro buildings in my North Beach scenery with Airport structures, which are simpler and therefore easier on the poly count (and therefore on the frame hit) and which don't create problems with macro designers complaining about your use of their work.
The process can be a little tricky, especially if the building configuration is at all unusual - elongated or whatever - and it takes some experimenting to get the XYZ numbers right. (You nailed it when you said "trial and error." So far I'm way ahead on errors.)
Somebody ought to write up a good tutorial on this, because the Airport directions are so confusing as to be almost useless. Unfortunately I still don't consider myself qualified to do so. Anyone?

Hi all, I do all of my macros using EOD, which formats the results into API format for use in AFW. This is a lovely friendly user simple program. You will need PSP or Photoshop or at least the basic Window Paint program to make your own textures. Here is a picture of the Rockland Lighthouse of the scenery I uploaded yesterday. I tried the other program above and did not like it. This one is very easy to use, has much more flexibility and I can do almost everything with it. What it is missing, you cannot make items revolve in a vertical like a ferris wheel. But it is perfect for a Merry Go Round as it has the horizontal rotation. You can make people, using a simple wall, and turn to plane option. You can see the picture of it in another thread. Cheers, Leon Louis

Probably was your message I just couldn't remember the details no offense intended. John

Not half as confused as I was when I tried to use EOD. The instructions are useless and the interface is incomprehensible. If you were able to learn to use that then you must be smarter than Confucius.
Incidentally, SceneGenX is similar to Airport but not the same. From the menu you show, it's got some improvements. Like more different roof type options.
I'm planning to use SceneGenX next time I take on a major airfield project (don't hold your breath) and then maybe try FSSC - I want to work my way through the various possibilities and see which one I like best.

Curly, Moe, and Larry. Geesh! Sorry ya'll got me laughing.
It looks as if anyone knows EOD, it is Leon. If everything he produces is with EOD, he is definily on top of that program. His work is great.
Hey Simonovman! You see those aqua colored buttons on Leons EOD? Those buttons can be downloaded from the EOD site and placed into the correct folder of the program and you will have those same buttons. It is a small zip file.

I see the buttons. They are indeed better looking than the hieroglyphics on the standard EOD interface, but just as mysterious; I have no idea what they mean, or what happens when you push them.
No doubt I could eventually figure it all out by experimentation; that was how I finally got the hang of the Airport buildings after all, and in fact that's what I've had to do for most of these programs. (The only ones I've seen with really good instructions are AFCAD and EZLandclass; and I had the benefit of Tom's excellent tutorial in learning AFCAD. Haven't tried SceneGenX or FSSC yet so I don't know if the directions are any good.)
But I'm starting to wonder if I'd ever be much good at this, given my deteriorating eyesight and my arthritic and often unsteady hands. I know I'll never be able to do the kind of work Frank and Leon do.

I am having a hard time understanding EOD myself. It would indeed be nice if it were easier to understand. Do you have the help files installed on your EOD program? If not you can download them at the website and install them in the proper program folder.
I did find out you have to create paths to other programs like, FS9 \Texture, and Airport for Windows\Scasm, and a few other places on the harddrive. Found it in the help files under CONFIGURATION.
Oh! and the buttons.......Push them and make mistakes. All you got to do is say no when asked to save. I've already made a house with a cube and roof, and added another roof for an extended walk way on it in the library button section . Having trouble with adding the textures. Play around with it, and read the help files a section at a time.
