I have been trying my hand at repainting Bill Lyons' Stinson (for my own edification) and I cannot get the wing registration numbers to come through. Only the outline faintly shows.
Any and all suggestions will help.
Thanks.

First what are you using to repaint the Stinson? Are you painting over the registration numbers? If so you will need to lower you opacity so it will show through. However, the best thing to do is to color over the registration then create a layer for your repaint and then creat another layer on top of you repaint for the registration number. Then you will have the original paint as your base, your repaint as your 1st layer and the registration number as the 2nd layer. Then whey you save it as a bmp file all the layers will merge into one. But of course this all depends on what painting tool you use. I use Paint Shop Pro.

Lifejogger:
I'm using FSRepaint. Actually I'm repainting a repaint as it's the only way I can accomplish what I want. I have Paint Shop Pro 8 but I have not yet learned how to use it except for some minor digital darkroom work. I wonder where in the textures the registraton numbers are.
I'll go back to PSP and see what I can do. Layers are what I cannot fathom at the moment. Gotta learn it if I really want to get into digital darkroom work.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi guys,
Frank layers are just that. They are manipulative layers, or adjustable image sheets. You can stack them in any order, you can change their opacity, you can make them become filters, and so on. One of the greatest things is to be able to copy and paste into several layers, and then arrange the layers where each image is in it's proper order, one behind the other, using transparent layers.
I learned how to use them from some suggestions from Joe Watson, and then just started to screw around a bit with them. Instead of trying to paste an image directly into the background, try pasting each added image into it's own layer. This gives you great control over the whole completed image. Don't forget to try the Properties under Layers in the menus. Many controls are there for each layer individually. Also, see the Arrange, View, and Merge abilities of layers.
Take care.......... Big John

The numbers on the Stinson are not textures but a gauge that displays white. The gauge would need some minor reprogramming to display another color and the panel.cfg would need adjustment. To make the white numbers show you will need to use a darker color for the wing surface.

Tom:
I'll try the darker color for now. I have a red airplane with white trim. I really didn't want a white with red plane as the Stinsons I knew and loved were all red with white lightning bolts, but I thought I would make a better looking airplane with the trim scheme that Bill used, except I wanted the lightning bolts. Got what I wanted except for the registration numbers on the wings which are on a white background.
Thanks much for the tip.
