Hello, All, I've taken the liberty of deleting my "Others Modifying One's Work sans Word" item. Nels of Flightsim.com has kindly forwarded my comments to the simmer/modifier involved. I hope he'll contact me so some sort of courteous understanding can be established. Regards. Dennis S

Hi Dennis- I missed your original post, but I did see the file in question. I hope a mutual unserstanding is possible.

Hello, Roger, I got my apparent answer in today's FS.COM uploads. Yet another "improvement" to the Explorer, with no mention of original authorship with either the photo id (my photo, by the way) or in the .txt file. And still no response to my forwarded e-mail. Is this what our hobby is coming to? More's the pity. Regards. Dennis

I remember the nice group on AOL so many years ago with you and Matt Standish and a couple others cranking out the FS5 planes. And nobody understands why people quit. There seems to be a growing group of cretins who have no respect for those who create freeware.

Well, Dennis, it appears you are not alone. Mr. Jones has treated Paul Clawson with the same lack of respect with modifications to his new B-10
Actually he has 18 similar files at flightsim.com

Hello, Tom and Roger, And forgive me for mixing/combining names. Yes, I wrote Paul about this but my e-mail got bounced back as undeliverable. It's a curious thing, as this individual's earliest contributions were joint efforts with others, all fully recognized. But the past uploaded "improvements" (more than two dozen) have all been without attribution of original authorship and, what's more, without e-mail contact, thus precluding direct communication to learn what the problem is. On the one hand, it's a trivial matter. All I'm seeking is citation as the plane's original author. On the other hand, whatever time these "improvements" took to accomplish, it's considerably less than the time I took devising the original model. Nels has been most helpful in incorporating authorship in the initial upload listing and in saying he forwarded my note to Mr. Jones. However, this second upload today again contains no citation of original authorship. And I've yet to hear from Mr. Jones. I've since written Nels to remove all versions of this Explorer, mine and the ones of uncited authorship. I regret doing this, but see no alternative. When we download things at FS.COM, we click on a blurb acknowledging matters of intellectual property and the like. This whole affair makes a mockery of that blurb. As I noted, more's the pity. Dennis

I understand and agree entirely Dennis. Flightsim and the other majors exist mainly for freeware downloads and he would do well to listen to the designers of that freeware. On the other hand they are a busy site and this may have slipped their attention. Nels and team are usually very good at listening to designers' complaints.
If there's anything we can do to help, just let us know.
Regards,
Roger

Hello, All, Just to bring this sad situation to closure, I can report that Nels has granted my request of removing the Abrams Explorer files, mine as well as the later ones failing to cite original authorship, from the Flightsim.com Library. Here, I would like to ask other builders how they feel on this matter. I have considered a more strongly worded statement in the .txt file explicitly prohibiting modification of any files without my written permission. I have also considered the more simple expedient of just not uploading aircraft to general sites. It's perfectly easy to keep record of those asking for particular planes and sending them one when it's done. (My next project is an Avro Type F along these lines.) Regards, Dennis

Hi Dennis:
It would be a shame to lose your work. Having great planes like yours suddenly appear as a gift is a big part of the fun of this hobby.
Please go with the very strongly worded readme. Its worked very well for Hauke Keitel and I am sure others.
I'm very fond of the Maxim Gorki, btw.

Dennis- You may have made your point The person in question credited the original author in his latest upload

Hello, Tom, Stephen, et al, First, thanks sincerely for your kind words about my planes. I enjoy building them. I enjoy sharing them. Tom, not to be a skeptic, but the author's name appears only in the listing, something that Nels was kind enough to do with one of mine as well. (Indeed, as I noted, Nels kindly updated the first listing to include my authorship; a subsequent listing fell into the earlier pattern of no attribution.) It's not clear that the modifier has got the message as yet. I've had no word from him. By the way, I have no problem sharing aircraft, except with sites that seem, in my sense, to have problems with authorship. By the way, I was able to download the neat Fitchburg scenery from here. Can planes be uploaded/downloaded as well?..... Cordially, Dennis

Hello, Tom, Thanks for your response. Maybe I could learn how to upload a photo and see if any demand exists. I'm almost done with a 1920 Dayton-Wright RB-1 racer. Regards. Dennis
