There's something I never liked in this pic: Its's the contrail effect. Specially those "white balls" of "smoke". I've tried some others released contrails effects, but I don't like them too much. So I'll only be happy if I make my own changes. Do you know of some good tutorial or manuals about creating Effects? Thanks

I have been running through that SDK for a week, trying to duplicate Bill Lyons' method of tying engine exhaust flame to engine rpm. If you see something I've missed, I'd appreciate a note; I would like to offer the effect to the Taperwing Project guys.
In the meantime, I have a contrail effect on my DC-3 from Adnane Bourja (DC3_fx.zip) that has a much smoother contrail than your picture shows. Assuming he never offered a similar effect for the B-17, you still might find adapting it to your Fort to be easier than writing your own. jim

Tom: I had forgotten Microsoft's site...when you say back to the roots. I've downloaded the Sdk and doing some interesting discoverings...so this is how my contrails looks like now. I'm still new to Effects...Jim, I'm going to download Mr Bourja's effect to see what's it's looks like and compare them, thanks for the tip!

That screen shot looks awsome! How can we enjoy those effects?

Hi bookman,
In the B-17, contrails happens when the outer temperature is under -25C. This is an automatic effect and that can be edited within the "aircraft.cfg" by adding this line
max_contrail_temperature=-25
at the end of the [GeneralEngineData] section.
Of course you can change the temperature to your taste, but I think they usually appear at -45C in the real world. But it depends on humidity and many other obscure things there in the outer space...
(If someone want these modified contrails, just pm me and I'll send it back)
EDIT: I forgot that you'll need to edit the [effects] section too, by adding this line
contrail = fx_wop_contrail_s------------the name of your effect file.
The default contrail effect's name is "fx_contrail_s", in case you want to give it a try

Ok, I understand the first part of the post, but not the second.
The smooth (no puff balls) effect is controlled by the last par tof your message?

AAHHH! now I understand what you meant!
I had edited the effect itself (fx_WOP_contrail_s).
An effect file can be edited by opening with Notepad and modifying the different parameters inside. I only tried to change those white balls to something more smooth, but I tried many times untill I got what I wanted. But how the effect works, is still a mistery to me...
