I'm currently working on my first repaint of Dave Eckert's Sopwith Camel. In the texture files, I can only find templates for the left side of the upper wing and rudder when I would like to have one for both left and right . Whatever I paint onto either of those surfaces is automatically mirrored on the opposite side. Because of this, In FS9 a serial number on the rudder will appear normal on one side and backwards on the other. I need to place a marking on one side of the upper wing as well, without it appearing on both sides. Can anyone give me simple advice on how to apply these markings? I'd appreciate any help that can be offered.

Hi Jon! welcome the the TOH. I don't have the files at hand, but let me tell you that sometimes it happens that way...it has something to do with the way the textures are "mapped" into the "mdl", if so, I'm afraid there's not too much we can do...but don't loose your hope, and may be someone else may help you. You can always visit Dave's own site, He's always very kind with repainters, he helped me a lot when I painted the Marauders series. Dave's site : www.daviator.com/

Jon, PM me your email address and I'll send you a model that stops the mirroring on the top wing and on the rudder (not the bottom wing though) ...

-E, you are full of secret resources! Not really secret... it's the same source you apparantly used (Dave Eckert himself *grin*). I begged him, as I needed the non-mirroring to finish the repaint above (No. 3 Sqdn RFC) to match one I did in plastic, far too many years ago now. Actually, I'm suprised that more people didn't ask for at least the rudder, as tail numbers were very common, if not the norm for Camels. Where I screwed up, is that I forgot I really needed the bottom wing non-mirrored as well. *sigh* If anyone else wants the model ( which will come with the repaint as a sort of template, if nothing else) pm me with an email address.

Thanks Roger. Here it is... It's a repaint reproducing the colors of Cole Palen's Camel as it appeared at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome from 1990-1998.

Roger, I've thought about uploading it, but I'm not sure how to address the different mdl file. In order to use this repaint, a new mdl file needs to replace the original, which will strip the textures off the left side of the rudder and upper wing of every other livery, unless the user has the resources to correct the problem. With all of the repaints for the Camel that are probably out there, I'm thinking that it would cause headaches. Here's some other screenshots...

I wonder if Dave Eckert would mind uploading the model with the new textures? I'd doubt he would mind as long as the readme made it clear that this was an un-mirrored version?

Thank goodness you are painting the ORA Sop, because it's the only one that will be flying in the real or virtual world. The knuckleheads running ORA into the ground wrecked the real one last year. Below is a link to a site that can give you a full appreciation about what has been done with and to Cole's legacy www.saveoldrhinebeck.org/index.html
