I am now using FS Repaint for the first time. I got a basic understanding of everything, and already know about repainting aircraft. My problem is with using Photoshop as my external editor. I have Photoshop set as external editor so that I can edit the textures in Photoshop. After I edit a texture, I save as a bitmap in 32 bit and named "_FSR" and it is saved in the FS Repaint folder and overwrites _FSR file that is already in the folder. I believe this is the correct way to do it, as the help file doesn't say exactly where or how to save it. Now, after I save the texture I go into FS Repaint (It has been open when editing the texture) and I go to File>Save. Now the texture reloads, but it doesn't show any changes. **(I have noticed that the original texture is DXT3, but I am saving as bitmap in 32 bit, could this present a problem? If so, I will have to download the Nvidia DXT tools again.) Can anyone help??
Thanks much!

The repaint I was working on was for the Aviat freeware from Avsim, but when that failed to work I tried to repaint the Curtiss Jenny, but it had the same problem as the Aviat. Darn machines!

I can't help here...I uninstalled FSrepaint some time ago.I am a sort of "old styler": I check my changes straight into the sim. I never got used to Fsrepaint...

Well, I got through a repaint! (First repaint in a LONG time) It was a lot of work to experiment, I thought I was dealing with texture properties problems (16 bit, 32 bit, DXT2 DXT3, etc.) but came to find out that it was the way I set up the [fltsim.x] in the aircraft.cfg file!! I just have to figure out some reflectivity things now, as you can see in my repaint in General Aviation forum. The wings are reflective, but the fuselage isn't, gives a bad look I would say I dont know how to add reflectivity yet, but I will start looking around for tutorials and reading up on them.

Well, that's looking good! to add reflectivity is not very difficult: the only thing you need is the right alpha channel. Creating and applying alpha channels is not really difficult, you only need DXT to join your repaint with the alpha channel.
For a general aviation plane, you may want to add a "Light" alpha channel via the DXT tool.
I usually add a "subtle" light grey alpha channel over white fuselages (from 255,255,255 to 230,230,230) This will give you some brightness without exagerating too much.
Remember: [glow=red,2,300]The darker the alpha channel, the more bright you'll get! [/glow]so you'll want to try different alpha channels untill you'll get the one you needs.
And, make sure your DXT settings are like this:
Mipmaps: unchecked Use 16 bit ditter: checked Scaling Filter: (your choice) Processing: Smoothing
Good LUck!

I am working on a repaint for Eaglesoft's Citation CJ1, and I am spending a bit more time on it. Their textures happen to have the alpha channel correctly made with the gray, white, and black colors. So, as long as I get those transferred to the new repaint I will be fine.
Thanks alot!
