I would like to know if anyone could do a repaint on J-3 cub in the paint job that was on my dads plane . The J-3 was a Flitfire and only 49 were ever made 13 remain and my dads old J-3 sits at the North Carolina air Museum . NC1776 is the only fully restored flyable Flitfire . The plane has great history , Orville Wright flew her in 1943. She is silver with the british markings, email me for pics jkah3@netscape.com . New at useing computer so I don't know how to put picture in here. Thank you ,Joe

Hi Joe, and welcome to the TOH. Your request looks very interesting, because I never saw a silver J3, and it must really looks nice. The first thing to do is to find the right model for FS, and then we can speak about repaints; I don't know if the default J3 is the one you are thinking about. But it can be done. Is this your father's plane?

Hello and thank you for putting the picture in for me. This J-3 is the same as fs9 the only thing different is the 3 piece windshield and wheel pants . Bill Lyons made a red j3 cub for the cub club that had wheel pants . The boys at Airplane Heaven talked to me last week about doing this plane but they said it would be awhile because of other planes they are working on but they like it because they never seen a j3 done like this. I would like to see this plane made because this J-3 Flitfire has more historical back ground than any other cub made. Joe

This J-3 in the picture is my dads NC1776 she now belongs to the North Carolina Air Museum . NC1776 was the first one made, The Flitfire was made to honor British pilots. Piper Aircraft co. designed a fundraising campaign to help disabled British pilots, the flitfires were raffled off . Jack Krinder of New York was the first to win and that was NC1776 Then she was sold to a pilot in Pa. Marquis C.J. Markle was a aviation pioneer a friend of Orville Wright and he trained over 2,000 men as a flight instructor for WWII . Orville Wright flew this plane in 1943 and President Nixon wanted to buy her for the up coming 1976 bicentennial but he was told NO not for sale. This is a great little plane go see her if your in North Carolina. Joe

Hi Joe, this is a plane with history, and, like many of this era its history also means a soul. Let's see if we can make her some honour in the FS sky too.
I'll try with the Bill Lyons models (I have to reinstall them) and see if it's possible to paint them with the detail she deserves.
Interesting Nixon was not able to own her...

Hello ,that would be great I had Bills cub but computer crashed and lost her I wish the cub club would start up again so I could get her again. I know everyone that I tell about Nixon being told no thinks thats funny but some things money can't buy. This plane only had 6 and a half owners but she was used heavily for training WWII pilots . I asked the museum what she is worth they said can't put a price on her because of her historical background . Thank you all for your help,Joe

Would the default J3 be the closest in form and shape?
How's the painting gone so far? If I had found my way back sooner, i may have even had a go myself... I have a full "order book" for paints, but if nothing has happened yet, I may yet be tempted...
Any writing on the wings and other areas we can't see in the one photo?
