Hey Joe, Thats a real blast from the past.Last time I was in Iwakuni in 1950 flying Sunderlands.Downtown Iwakuni was a collection of paper shacks, possible to get a beer, but food was of the cooked by an old crone over an open fire variety and of dubious nature well left alone! my how things do change.Still I did enjoy being reminded of my youth,I was only 21 at the time, happy days. Thanks Joe, yes it has changed a lot,it was only a collection of small paper and wood buildings,a few shops and a number of beer halls. We tended to stay mainly onbase which was a joint American,Australian,British base. The airfield was used by Transport and Fighter aircraft on R&R from Korea. We operated off the base on joint operations with a Mariner VP Squadron, with the US Salisbury Sound as a seaplane tender. Back to the food theme, being a joint base ,the Messes catered for all nationalities and was excellent, the bars were operated on a non profit basis and very cheap,so really not much need to go into iwakuni town,in fact the base used a different money system, script and bafs, one had to change to yen off base ,which was not convertible back. Incidently, when were you there? as far as I remember all the roads were dirt Reguards Peter.

I'll have a cheese blintz please... Every year, after yom kippur, to fill our fasting stomaches, my mom makes the most unbelievable blintz caserole. Its lak a bunch of blintzes lined up in a caserole dish, with this really sweet egg concoction poured over it. It's cooked so that it is nice and soft. Last year, I ate so much of it I nearly puked!

Strictly on the cheap here, I made chicken and noodles for tonight. Plenty left for later in the week too! Finished the home made chili Friday. I really tend to favor Mexican, Chinese, and Italian food for some reason. Have to get out the old card file and see if anything trips my trigger.
Cheers,
Phil

My normal cuisine is a Chinese-Italian fusion in method (ginger AND oregano) using whatever fresh ingredients are available. I don't go shopping with a menu, I build my menu in the market when i see what looks good. And I never shop when I'm hungry
