For a long time I have been having troubles with the cruise speed in a Cessna 182 and 172. When in straight in level flight I cannot get my speed above 80-90 knots. Automixture is on, so I don't think the mixture setting would be the problem. What could be the problem?

I assume you've checked the obvious - flaps UP, carb heat OFF, power - let's see, at 700' out of SAC, 2300 rpm gives me 102.5 KIAS in the 172 (don't have the 182 any more). That leads me to two questions: 1) how do your other airplanes fly? 2) Are your Cessnas stock (I experiment with aircraft.cfg files all the time, and you should - or maybe shouldn't - see the results I get)?

Yah I checked the obvious. Most of my other stock aircraft fly the same way, except for some turboprops but of course no problem with jets. And yes my Cessna aircraft are stock. The 172 should have a ceiling of 14,000 feet, and on a clear day without density altitudes in mind, I cannot manage to get to even 10,000 feet. One time I got to 9,500 feet and it was "Cruising" at 70 knots . It does get very frustrating when I am trying to recreate a flight and get accurate results. Any other suggestions? I can take a screenshot of the panel when I am in level flight if that helps.

Posting a screen shot might give someone else a hint, but it sounds as though you're out of my (extremely small) field of expertise - I'm an airplane freak, and if all your stock piston planes are giving you substandard performance, you might have a program problem. Wish I could be more help. jim

Well who would have known! I noticed that when I was flying in "straight and level" flight, that I was ascending at 500 fpm! THat may explain the slow speed! I realise that the first white bar on the attitude indicator doesn't mean you are in straight flight, instead it means a 500 fpm ascension. Well now that problem is solved!
