Hi guys,
Been on a little break, lots going on in binka's world lately.
I have been hooked on the FS series since the introduction of GMAX. I know some of you think that is a dirty word, but it proved to be a powerful stepping stone to the world of 3d design for me.
By building freeware/personal models for FS i learned some valuable skills that I can now put to work in the real world. I progressed from Gmax to 3ds Max to AutoCAD to Solidworks. I now have been blessed with the opportunity to design in Solidworks for a sheetmetal fabrication shop, basically doubling my income. Who says freeware doesnt pay?
So, I just want to thank all of you for putting up with my early work, and unmet deadlines and general bugs. It has allowed me to persue my dream, ironically not of flight but of 3d design.
It's been a great run and i have met some true friends here and although i will be less visible in the coming months, never fear.. i always have something cooking.
what has it done for you?
if nothing... still continue to follow that dream, it's within reach. I'm living proof.
later,
joe

Good for you Joe. And when you have time for the hobby again, we'll be around. What has Flight Sim done for me? It has enriched my life beyond measure. Not so much the sim itself of course, though I have found it to be my best entertainment investment for 15 years. The enrichment has come from the community and the wonderful friendships I have experienced as a result. I won't mention them all, that would squeeze the bandwidth here but I remember the late Mel Roberts who I never met in person, but who taught me to use Airport for scenery design. And the late Art Nichols with whom I spent many Thursdays in my living room or his den drinking prodigious amounts of coffee and making scenery for the original Golden Wings. The past 7 1/2 years have been an amazing experience, from the therapy of the original The Old Hangar to the retirement village of this one And I owe it all to flight sim. Thanks MS!

Hi Joe! Good for you ole boy! I am glad that things have shaken out so well for you. What has FS done for me? Well I would have to echo what Tom said. Over the last 8yrs I have made many new friends & it has given me the oportunity to experiance things that I never could in the RW. It also has the most bang for my entertainment dollar of anything I have ever tried.

Let's see...
I work in the aviation field. Though have only worked the Lockheed P-3 for the last 18 years. FS has opened the civilian world of avaition to me. I have learned so much about aircraft types, and some on airline operations, and being able to compare the military maintenance to the civilian maintenance as well.
We have a qual in the Navy call "Enlisted Avaition Warfare Specialist". FS taught me a lot about flying in general, things like runway layouts, navaids, etc, Made getting the EAWS qual a little easier.
Working the Maintenance Control desk now, learning the navaids and radios, has also help me to understand the avionic world a little better as well.
Meet a lot of great friends around the world. Though have yet to meet anyone in person yet. Might happen soon though with some friends on the Philskies fourm. A Philippine fourm I hang out on, and me being in the Philippines in an area were a lot of them are.
Show what a small world we live in. I have a friend that I meet at one of the VA's I used to fly for. One day he asked, "Hey, here's a shot in the dark, there are many P-3 Pilots in Hawaii, but my brother-in-law flies out there, do you happen to know Bill?" Sure enough Bill was in my command and I had just finished a 7 week trip with him. A little bad timing though, my friend had been to Hawaii prior to our trip, so didn't get to meet him in person.
