I just finished reading an excellent aviation book titled “Flight of Passage” by Rinker Buck. It is the story of Rink Buck and his older brother Kern flying from Basking Ridge, New Jersey to San Juan Capistrano, California the summer of 1966 in their family’s 1946 Piper Cub which they rebuilt over the winter of 1965-66. At the time of the flight Kern was 17 and Rink was 15 and the cub they flew had no battery, radio, lights or starter. The only navigation instruments they had were the magnetic compass and a stopwatch. It is very interesting story in that it gets into the relationship that the brothers hade between themselves and their father, who taught them how to fly. It tool them 6 days and they flew thought Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and finally California. If you like aviation books this is a good one to read.

John, That's a great book for summer reading! One of my favorites. I think they made the flight in 1967 or 68, but I'm not sure. Paul
