I Received a new Dell on 8/30/06. I could hardly wait until I got it set up and fs9 installed. I took off in a Cessna and noted great frame rates (50 to 70+ fps). But there were large blocks of terrain which abruptly changed in appearanace as I flew closer. As I flew toward a body of water, there were large bocks of water covering what should be land and had trees sticking out above the surface of the water. Also there were large blocks of land on the water which changed to water as I flew closer. I have talked to Dell support but received no clue as to the problem. I have no idea of what the problem could be but after reading the discussion in The Pilots Grill on video card drivers I suspect that might be the problem. Any help would certainly be appreciated. First SOP is indeed to install the latest non beta driver
This is of course assuming that you don't have installed anything (addon) on top of FS9..

Hi Dominique: Thanks for the quick reply! I'm sorry to say I have no idea what you are telling me to do. I have no add-ons installed yet. Bruce

Dominique means have you installed the latest drivers made specifically for your hardware...especially for your video card?
If it's just been delivered then you might assume that all the latest drivers were installed.
As Fs is very hungry for graphic data you might consider adding ram to make it up to 1 gigabyte. The effect you're seeing means that tiles of terrain are not filling as quickly as they should and as untiled areas are blue you're assuming that it's sea. I have this effect with display settings too high but your system sounds like it should handle high settings (apart from the ram)
Cheers,
Roger.

Hi Roger: Thanks to you also for the quick reply. I thought I did have 1 gigabyte of ram. I get the same results with both low or high display settings. Bruce

@ Bruzee Your driver should be version 91.47.
@ Roger Your diagnostics is of course right but Bruzee seems to already have1 Gb of DDR2 which is plenty enough. Assuming that the card came with the latest driver is something I personnally wouldn't bet on (I never bet anyway, still...).

My thanks to both of you. I am very grateful. I downloaded the driver (40mgs) on dial-up which took some time. After installing the driver it works perfectly. I am wondering why you two recognized the problem instantly and the man at Dell support had no idea. Maybe he is familiar with hardware but must not be familiar with fs9. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Bruce
P.S. Am now looking forward to fsx.

you know Bruce when a computer doesn't work, you gotta remember two quick rules of thumb : 1- Black screen : check whether everything is connected including the computer to the wall socket and every switch is on ON. I'm not kidding... 2- Graphic issue : check the video card driver. Glad everything is OK now, enjoy !
