Installeed a fresh version of fs9 and followed installation instructions; I did forget to add the 9.1 patch, but will go back and redo everything once CTD problem is sorted. GW3 starts fine but crashes as soon as I hit 'Fly' after selecting/creating a flight. Any recommendations?

I think, if you are going to use the patch, you need to install it before GWs!! It may overwrite some of Bills things?? Do you still have the C172?? That seems to be some of the problems?? I have no idea what I am talking about!! Blah Blah Blah!! Sorry!!

As concerns the 9.1 patch, once I find a solution to my problem,I will delete everything and start over. And yes, I have the c172 folder.

Well, I deleted my first install of GW3 and re-installed fs9 in the C:\FSGW3 folder. Before I did anything else, I ran fs9 from this new location; same thing, back to desktop when I hit 'Fly".

Be sure to create a startup flight in the default that can be in GW as well. For example, my startup is Bill's J-3 at KBGR in both FS9 and FSGW. If you have the Cessna starting at SeaTac you will crash BECAUSE there is no SeaTac in FSGW. There's a forest that didn't get paved over until 1944.
To be certain of your second install, start it up before you add FSGW and move that default flight to Boeing field or somewhere.

Got it working. Did the startup flight thing- no change. Then, before hitting'fly', I changed the time and away we went....go figure. Thanks for the help.

I highly suggest you keep the C172 and that you leave it as your default flight. FS seems to work best if you do that.
I also think the install instructions ought to include a couple of other things...
1. Copy your airplanes as needed to the FSGW3 folder but also copy your gauges file (deleting obviously unneeded gauges like the 737 and other jet gauges etc.)
2. Copy your modules folder over. Thats where things like FSUIPC live along with active camera etc. if you have it.
3. Copy your effects folder over too. But when asked to overwrite the existing files say NO. This will make sure your effects that are specific to any airplanes you bring over will be there.
4. If you have any special traffic bgls you want to bring over bring them too.
Just some things I did.
