from GW scenery? They look very unrealistic. Also would love to figure out a way to replace all the container ships with breakbulk vessels from the appropriate period. Assume thats probably as easy as finding an appropriate replacement and renaming the files?
One other observation... I dont see any churches in FSGW? Are they there? Seems a little odd to be low and slow over a rural american town in the 30's and not see a church steeple or two. :-)
now to find some castles to add to my UK scenery!

Kimber might know this since she found a way to remove the nuclear power plants

Kimber got rid of the nuke power plants by simply repainting the appropriate .bmp absolute black...0,0,0 = transparent. The same technique should work for the cranes.
Two cautions:
1. With the repaint technique, the object may be invisible, but it's still there. You can crash into it. Call it low-level clear air turbulence, I guess.
2. For reasons I do not understand, renaming or removing the objects does not work. I tried that with the nukes before finally begging the amended files from Kimber. Interestingly, I had played around with a saved flight in flight near the nuke I wanted to "nuke". When I load that flight, the nuke is briefly there, then disappears. It's as if GW3 was loaded the default file (which no longer exists in my GW3) then overwriting it with Kimber's modified file.
Cheers,
Glenn

I think this is actually controlled by the default.xml in the autogen folder. I know thats how I killed off the stupid fast food restaurants in the original FS2004. Atleast that would be the way to probably add or delete churches. The Container cranes are probably actual scenery objects. I think Kimbers idea is a nifty way to get rid of them for now. Will try to find out which textures are involved.

There are lots of churches in the revised default.xml autogen which GW installed. If you applied the patch after applying the GW conversion then you just put back the normal autogen. Reapplying the GW conversion file should put plenty of churchs everywhere. The Cooling tower will be eliminated in the first update.

Thanks Bill! (any advice on the container crane issue?)

Eric,
What Bill is talking about is the FS9 patch. GW3 installation should be AFTER you create a separate FS9 install with the FS9 patch installed.

Thanks Kofi. I understood that the deal was if I patched the FS9.1 patch over GW3, then that would cause a problem. I didnt do that.
In any case, did some experimentation... the churches are there in the USA. Problem is that there arent any in the UK!!
Thats what made me notice it. Flying low and slow over northern Scotland, they appeared to be all heathens!!! I know thats not the case... :-) Except with the Glasgow Rangers are playing...

Were there churches there before? Maybe a pic with coordinates showing one from your regular fs2004 installation? Thanks

Eric, can't help with removal of objects, but for castles, simply look for "castle at AVSIM, but don't specify an FS version. I found that Harlech Castle and Caernarfon Castle for FS2002 (harlech.zip & caernfn.zip). Last night I tested a couple of FS2002 sceneries which worked in the basic FS04, presume they will also in GW (if Welsh castles help). Also there's some east Sussex sceneries by Keith Hackett for FS02, one of which (hasuk.zip) includes Pevensey Castle, another Bodiam Castle (sussex2.zip). I know these work - they add some south coast piers which look nice in Golden Wings.
