Make certain you have the file name in this format FS9.back.cfg, or FS9_org.cfg, then it is just a matter of changing the the new FS9.cfg name to FS9_new.cfg, and changing the backup back to FS9.cfg when you need to refer back to the origanl configuration file.

Sorry harleyman, I thought you were having the FS9.cfg problem that many have when doing an install, or multiple install. Question, are you making separate directories for each instance of FS9 that you will use for GW? I always make mine outside of the Microsoft Games directory. Like C:/Program Files/FSGW, or even C:/FSGW, but it is not recommended to place it in the root of the C:/ drive.

Yes I'm trying to use :method 2: for my install cause my current FS9 folder is very big.....In the GW install folder
It tells you to rename your main FS folder to *whatever* so you can run the four disks again for a new install of FS9...

METHOD B. If you have a large fs2004 installation with many addons then it is best to create your FsGW3 installation from a fresh CD installation! Follow the steps below:
Step1. Using windows explorer rename your current fs2004 installation to something like fs2004BACK.
Step 1 will not work...Tells me it is write protected or in use......

Maybe you are not running under the proper permission rights, or user account for administartor. I've never had a problem changing the name for the FS9 directory. Maybe read through the instructions again , and see where you are making an error. I haven't done this procedure in some time. Also, look through some of the posts here.

restart your computer, and try it again, maybe your computer is thinking you are still in FS9. I'll let someone else try to answer this one, sorry I couldn't help out
