Hi there! I recently downloaded FSGW and I now want to start regressing Germany, my home country, to the 1920-1939 Aera. Unfortunately i could not find the buildings i need for this task. My first Project shall be Hambur, my Hometown, for which I need large Hangers and large 1920 aera Terminal Buildings. All the objects i could find are suitable for small airfields but not for large ones. Please tell me where to find such stuff.
Best regards,
Jan

Jan - Gary Burns made some very good large British hangers which may be suitable. The FSDS source files are available at SOH.

Thanks guys. I followed the tutorial from scruffyduck and I must admit it is easier than I assumed it would be. Regarding the Hangars i have to ask a stupid question: What does SOH stand for? Do I need FSDS to get them working in FS? So far I have replaced the Textures and removed the runways to swap them for grass ones. All i need now are the hangars ant the terminal Building.
Best regards,
Jan

Thanks Roger. I will register there. Until I get acess there I have used Standard MS buildings. They look OK, but I guess I will look into Gmax Design since I am a little bit perfectionistic. Also I need Aerial Photographs or Drawings of the german Airports of this aera, which I think is not an easy task to complete. The US designers seem to have better sources than I have here in Germany. My source until now are simple Postcards from the Airport, I found on the web. Maybe anyone here has an idea where to get stuff like that. Best regards,
Jan

There was a thread a few months ago with all these great 1930's pix from and of German airports and airfields. As I recall there were some very good background scenery included in these photo's. Sorry can't recall the thread..maybe BHK can..we posted back and forth about these photo's.
Regards, Royce

Hi Jan,
yes, a regression of Germany would be a good idea. Architecturally, Hamburg would be an interesting airport, with its old, curved terminal building. One of the old hangars even still exists, I think.
I don't think you will find an appropriate terminal building in any scenery library, though. If you want to have it, you would have to build and texture it yourself, I am afraid.
I have some pictures of vintage airports, if you need something in particular, give me a shout.
Best regards, Volker

Hi Volker, thaks for your offer, i'll gladly take it. I wrote to the PR guys from HH Airport and they will send me some material. I hope that will help. Regarding the Terminal, I figured that when I started to collect material about EDDH in the 30's. One of the hangars does still exist, it used to be the charter Terminal, but I think the hangars can be easily designed. The hard part will be th old terminal, but I think it existed till the early 1960's so there must be some colour pictures of that. Besides that any help is appreciated.
Viele Grüße,
JHT

OK, you asked for it: Here are the models so far The Hangar, 2 of which are there: and the Terminal front and rear. I didn't model it curved, because I'm afraid it will use too many polygons. I still have to do the textures and get rid of the standard MSFS Terminal buildings, so still lots to do. cheers, Jan

Have you travelled to the Aviation Museum in Oberschleissheim to see what they have? I was there last month, and they had some really decent pictures on display, as well as some models.
I visted Leipzig last week, which had a book on Saxony and aviation for sale at the Stadtmuseum. EUR 4.50, with several pictures of German airfields from the 1920s and 1930s, as well as some decent "coffee-table" history.
German airfields of that era had some very unique construction. I wouldn't think lifting British construction would work very well. In particular, the control towers all seem to be part of a larger Bavarian-style building, rather than the "big boxes" that British aerodromes tended to use.
Conn Barracks outside of Schweinfurt still has an active Golden Age tower and hangar.
